Go To

Fat Gum and Red Riot find themselves facing two powerful members of the Hassaikai; one who creates an unbreakable forcefield and another that can break through their defensive Quirks. As the fight rolls on, Kirishima recounts events that led to his desire to become a hero.

Trope

  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Despite having a Heroic Second Wind, Kirishima is still beaten by Rappa and Tangai's Quirks. However, he buys Fat Gum enough time to unleash his Fat Adsorption Quirk and deliver a decisive blow, knocking out both villains.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: A flash back shows Kirishima and Ashido encountering a mountainous man in search for his master. While he may not mean much at the time, he would soon be introduced as a loyal ally of All For One.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: Rappa frequently berates his ally Tangai for protecting him with his Barrier Quirk, as he feels he can't get a proper challenge with it active.
  • Wham Shot: The end of the episode shows how Fat Gum's Quirk operates. By transferring all the power thanks to his Quirk, he can unleash it in various ways. When that energy is depleted, his round form is considerably slimmed down.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: Most of the episode reveals how Kirishima was inspired in becoming a hero, thanks to both his favorite Hero Crimson Riot and his future classmate Mina Ashido.
  • The Worf Effect: Kirishima suffers this at the start when Kendo Rappa breaks through his Unbreakable form with little effort.
  • Villain Respect: Rappa is elated in seeing the younger Kirishima get back up for another fight, after initially being knocked down so easily. He also gives Fat Gum credit for blocking his deadly attacks, if just barely.
