Written by: Robert Van Scoyk

Jessica befriends actress Joanna Rollins, star of the daytime soap opera "Happily Ever After," after a mix-up occurs with their mail. Unfortunately, Jessica's newfound acquaintance with her apartment neighbor occurs just as Joanna's life goes through a major upheaval. Joanna's about to marry the wealthy Walter Bowman, inciting rage from her ex-husband Devon Lane as well as Walter's daughter Marci. Sadly, Joanna's own happily ever after is cut short when Walter's shot to death in his bedroom. Stuck right in the middle of things, Jessica's forced to determine who killed Walter.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Former Child Star: Devon Lane's well known as a child actor previously called "Sonny," and it's clear his adolescent career hasn't done him any favors. When Jessica tries to be polite and says it's nice to meet him, remembering his old role, Devon mimics vomiting.
  • Large Ham: Joanna and Devon, especially when it's revealed they were working together to alibi each other for Walter's murder and thus were playing up the "Abusive ex and terrified girlfriend" roles.
  • Running Gag: Marci's boyfriend keeps insisting his "roller coaster in every city" idea is genius and keeps looking for investors. The episode ends with the doorman of Jessica's apartment building stating he just spoke with someone about a great investment opportunity...
