Recap / Murder She Wrote S 5 E 6 Wearing Of The Green

Go To

While researching her latest novel by visiting the Blackthorn and Sons jewelry emporium, Jessica ends up as the witness to the theft of the Tara tiara, a beautiful piece connected with reclusive actress Siobhan O'Dea.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Blue Blood: Siobhan O'Dea believes (with some accuracy, according to Parrish) that she was descended from Irish kings, and the Tara tiara was created for her in honor of that heritage.
  • The Hermit: Siobhan O'Dea retreated from the world after her life spiraled downward, and she hasn't left her apartment in over ten years. A few people visit her, but mostly she prefers to stay alone with her past. At first, Jessica insists she won't intrude, but after Parrish ends up accused, she tries to get into Siobhan's apartment to prove his innocence. Luckily, the ex-star happens to be a massive fan of Jessica's books.
  • Immoral Journalist: Subverted; Kenneth Parrish rivals Jessica herself in his pushiness with investigating a story, and he ends up arrested for Dolby's murder. However, Jessica finds out that he's innocent.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Jessica figures out that Andrea Dean had been in Dolby's apartment the night of his death and probably committed the murder by connecting her to the anonymous tipster who placed Ken Parrish at the scene of the crime. The tipster called Detective Stacey, not homicide; a person who didn't know the murder and the theft of the tiara were related wouldn't have called the detective investigating the theft.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Lazslo had been in love with Siobhan a long time and stole the tiara to make her happy.
  • Memento MacGuffin: The jewelers put the tiara on display to help sell their wares and talk about it mostly in terms of monetary value, but Siobhan loves it for its connection to her fiance and her heritage.
  • Red Baron: Parrish calls Detectives Stacy and Chadwick "the iron maidens" as though it's a common nickname.
  • Starstruck Speechless: Detective Chadwick and Siobhan O'Dea both like Jessica's writing, and both get a bit flustered when they actually meet her during the investigation.
  • White-Dwarf Starlet: Siobhan O'Dea, an ex-movie star and stage actress, stays in her apartment all the time since the death of her fiance more than a decade ago. Her rooms brim with pictures and mementoes of her fabulous career, and her reaction to getting the tiara back seems slightly unbalanced.
