Deputy Andy Broom is accused of first framing a sworn enemy for murder and then killing the enemy after the charges are dismissed.

- Ambiguous Innocence: Andy hates Fred for selling him a house that needs expensive repairs, but later admits that Fred was mean and greedy but normally honest, making it unclear whether Fred did knowingly cheat Andy.
- Big Fun: The diner owner is a plus size woman who is quick with a smile, good advice, and disapproving looks at mean-spirited gossips.
- A Day in the Limelight: Andy gets his first main role after being a recurring character for several seasons.
- Femme Fatale: Sexy Sweater Girl accountant Wendy is quick to smile and give sympathetic words but is always spying on people, talks to three different colleagues (one of whom is married) about going out to dinner in the same scene without telling them about each other, is possibly deliberately getting other workers in trouble for mistakes she made (including the guy she's dating and someone who actually gets fired for it) and lied to her boss about her education and work experience. It is hard to tell exactly what she is up to, but she does ultimately help the police catch the killer.
- Karma Houdini: While Wendy's lies about her past are discovered, her lies about her collegues are not, and by the end the focus is more on how she helped Jessica than what she was doing before that.
- Stealing from the Till: Wendy finds a computer file that references money transfers to a mysterious company called Norcom, which no one has ever heard of. It turns out that Norcom is a shell company that an embezzler has funneled millions of dollars into.
