The duo have been hired by L.A.W. to save an endangered species on a planet that is set to explode. However, Beebs realizes that something is off about the job.
Tropes:
- Bittersweet Ending: Dr. Agness is brought to justice for her crimes, but it doesn't change the fact that the Lythop ruler is now the Last of His Kind.
- Failed Attempt at Scaring: Due to the cute appearance of the Lythops, the ruler's efforts to intimidate Shrike and Beebs fall flat not only because they find them adorable, but also because the are more impressed than scared by the ruler's abilities to where they applaud the ruler slashing their tracker.
- List of Transgressions: After Agness is defeated and imprisoned by L.A.W., they list off her crimes, including illegal weapons production, arms trading, impersonating a L.A.W. Science official, and of course, genocide.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: While the duo did intend to save the Lythops like they were hired to do, it doesn't change the fact that they were responsible for Dr. Agness committing genocide on them.
- Spotting the Thread: Beebs finds a few things odd about the job they were hired to do. First is the fact that there isn't any tectonic activity happening on a planet that is going to explode in four hours. Second is the fact that they are specifically saving the Lythops when the planet has many other creatures on it. His suspicions prove true once Agness reveals her true intentions.
