"Springtime" is the 17th episode of Season 4 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 75th in the series.

A harbinger of spring (Mickey) must deal with a winter warlock (Pete) to ensure spring returns.


Tropes

  • Burning with Anger: Pete steals Mickey's pan pipe, traps him in an ice cage and begins to freeze the first flower of spring. Mickey gets so mad that his cage starts to melt. After realizing what's happening, Mickey continues to get angry until his cage melts.
  • The Cameo: Humphrey the Bear gets frozen by Pete.
  • Disney Villain Death: Pete falls off a cliff in the short's climax. Downplayed in that it doesn't actually kill him, and at the end is seen sleeping soundly.
  • Genre Throwback: The short recalls the "Silly Symphonies" and Fantasia shorts.
  • An Ice Person: Pete plays some sort of personification of winter who loves to turn anything and anyone into ice.
  • Magical Flutist: Mickey plays a pan pipe that melts snow and makes flowers bloom. When Pete steals it, he uses it to create a blizzard.
  • Mime and Music-Only Cartoon: There is no dialogue, just the characters moving in sync to the music.
  • Mythology Gag: Minnie's dress is similar to that of Persephone in the Silly Symphony "Goddess of Spring".
  • No-Dialogue Episode: In addition to this, there are no sound effects either.
  • Transflormation: Minnie's World-Healing Wave covers Pete with moss and flowers.
  • World-Healing Wave: The flower Mickey is protecting houses Minnie, who brings about spring with a wave of her hand, melting all the snow instantly.
