The heroes meet an assassin Lan's age by the name of Dark Scythe and his navi Erase Man. They don't know if he's friend or foe and when the Cutman brothers take someone dear to him hostage, he may turn out to be a foe.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Battle Network 6's Gregar version, Dark Scythe mentions he was taught by Miyabi. Here, since Dark Scythe live in a parallel world, he has no connection to Miyabi, although Lan does draw a comparison between them with Dark Scythe correctly assuming Miyabi is also a loner.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: Much like his game counterpart, Dark Scythe and Erase Man were assassins only working for money until he failed a mission. Commander Mask who hired him in the first place was concerned about his injuries. Dark Scythe was too despondent about his failure to care. Commander Mask decided to make it Dark Scythe's next mission to getting his injuries treated and a reward for following through with it. Dark Scythe learned the value of kindness and decided to remain loyal to Commander Mask and help against the Cybeasts.
- Continuity Nod: Dark Scythe takes out a photo of Commander Mask. Laika notes its the same person who helped him and Dingo when they first arrived.
- Dirty Coward: Zoan Cut Man ambushes Dark Scythe and is willing to attack the others as well until Lan and Laika summon their navis making Cut Man mildly tremble in fear. His brothers take it further holding Commander Mask hostage, which they get called out on.
- Eyes Never Lie: Dark Scythe mentions he can tell Lan doesn't lie just by looking at his eyes.
- His Story Repeats Itself: Just like the Gospel era, Cut Man's deletion results in his brothers trying to avenge him.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The episode begins with Roll fighting Beastized viruses. Mayl loads a meteor battle chip, which sinks a ship Iris wanted to use to cross the sea and reach Wily's lab.
- One-Winged Angel: Averted. Zoan Cut Man and his brothers are the only Zoanoroids with a major role not to Beast Out.
- Sneeze Cut: Lan compares Dark Scythe to Chaud twice and he sneezes both times with Dingo asking if he's coming down with a cold. After the second sneeze, Chaud knows its Lan and knows it means he's all right.
- Wham Shot: Played for laughs. Lan and Mayl have a "No way, it can't be!" looks on their faces when they see the photo and note he looks just like Masa.
