  • Adapted Out: Reverend Brown, the dark minister from De Smet from Laura's childhood and father to her friend Ida Brown, who organized her marriage to Almanzo at his own house, is replaced by the local minister of Sleepy Eye, Reverend Hartwig.
  • Career vs. Man: Laura is infatuated with the idea to get a teaching position in another town, but Almanzo doesn't want her away and tells her to quit teaching when they get married, leading to a heated argument which nearly ruins their plans for marriage.
  • Papa Wolf: When Almanzo confronts the man who sold him a land with improductive earth on purpose which he can't afford to crop in time for their deal, Charles clams him down before he gets physical and sends him out, but then punches the man for conning his future son-in-law and daughter before declaring he's gonna get his way "when Hell freezes over".
  • Put on a Bus: After the fiasco witg Harve, Eliza Jane pretends she'll marry, but in truth, she'll accept a job in another town and leaves her house to Almanzo and Laura so they can marry. She'll make two more appearances in the next season, but this is her last appearance as a regular.
  • Race for Your Love: After Eliza Jane announces she'll marry and leave their home for Almanzo and Laura (she was lying to save their wedding), Almanzo rushes to catch up with the stagecoach transporting Laura, who was moving to attend a new job as schoolteacher which he didn't want her to, to explain that his real problem was with Laura staying too far away from him, and that with his sister off to marry, they can have the house for themselves and she can take over as schoolteacher in Walnut Grove. Then he proposes and Laura accepts.
  • Romantic False Lead: Harve to Eliza Jane.
  • Wedding Episode: For Laura and Almanzo. Although it is a relatively low-key ceremony, and at the new Blind School.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Eliza Jane finally gets to overcome her shyness with men when she starts hanging around with Harve Miller, who seems fond of her and appears to return her feelings. Then he reveals he's interest in another woman, seemingly oblivious to EJ's feelings for him and he intends to marry.
  • You Remind Me Of Myself: When trying to defend Almanzo from the man who tricked him and Laura out of their land, Charles says "You know who he reminds me? His future father-in-law.", and punches the man, cementing how he sees much of himself in his future son-in-law.
