- Living Emotional Crutch: This episode makes it very clear that Eames is this for Goren. He does not take it well when Eames goes missing.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Jo and her father have a rather strained relationship, and it's obvious that Jo wants his approval. She went to Quantico trying to please him, but ended up dropping out. In fact, she was so desperate to be acknowledged that she became a serial killer, correctly realizing that it was the only way he would ever pay attention to her.
