Nicky is conflicted whether to invite Henry or Evan as her date to Althea's wedding. In the meantime, she continues to listen to her aunt's tapes about the sacred swords, while helping Evan gather evidence to free a freshman college student accused of murder. Meanwhile, Althea is convinced by Dennis to come forward about her rape experience, while Ryan takes Joe to see his parents.

  • Better as Friends: Nicky says that she wants to remain just friends with Evan, having decided to choose Henry.
  • Blackmail: Justin blackmailed Margo not to testify regarding Cody's innocence by threatening to ruin her life.
  • Fratbro: Averted with Justin, who has a dictatorial supervision over his fraternity and meticulously cleans up any dirty laundry they have committed.
  • Hostage for MacGuffin: Edgar threatens to kill Zhilan if Kerwin doesn't hand over the ax. He acquiesces, but then kills Edgar while Zhilan takes out the remaining guards.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Ryan breaks up with Joe so the latter can accept his new job in Chicago.
  • MacGuffin Location: At some point, Mei-Xue switched her focus from the sacred weapons to the Forge, the place where the weapons were created hundreds of years ago. Because the weapons weaken over time, the only way for them to return back to their full power is to take all eight of them back to the Forge.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Nicky and Henry hook up.
  • Scholarship Student: Cody is one, and this makes him an easy target for scapegoat since he doesn't have money to represent himself with a good lawyer.
  • Silent Scapegoat: The fraternity scapegoat Cody for Rick's murder, as a freshman being indicted won't reflect badly on the rest of the frat. Having had no way to get out of the case, Cody nearly takes a plea deal to save face.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Kerwin freezes upon realizing that he has just stabbed Edgar to death. Zhilan comments that the first kill is always the hardest.
