From Hugo to Scarlemagne, from victim to villain, a tyrant tells his tale. Wolf, Benson and Dave hatch a plan that could blow up in their faces.

Tropes:

  • Bare-Bottomed Monkey: When Scarlemagne is shown as a teenager, he is depicted with a bare pink butt.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Played With. While being experimented on by Dr. Emilia when she discovered he became sapient certainly contributed to his descent to villainy, finding out Lio abandoned him in favour of Kipo is what pushed him over the edge.
  • Cooldown Hug: After Scarlamagne tells Kipo his Dark and Troubled Past and has his Berserk Button pressed for being adressed as Hugo, she calms him down by giving him a hug. When he asks her why she's doing it, she just tells him he just looked he needed it. He didn't even push her away.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Surprisingly Scarlamagne/Hugo has one. As a child, he was a normal mandrill, and was a test subject for Dr. Emilia's work to recreate and cure the mutation that caused the end of human society. Lio and Song began to treat him as a son when the experimentation worked and Hugo gained human-level sentience but forced him to keep quiet which caused severe loneliness, then Dr. Emilia discovered him and began cruel experiments on him. When Song destroyed the lab, Hugo escaped, but he was heartbroken and angered to discover that Lio had abandoned him for Kipo.
  • Dramatic Drop: When Dr. Emilia sees a young Hugo playing the piano perfectly, she drops her pencil in surprise.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • While Scarlemagne did suspect that the Mega Monkey was special, he never knew it was because she was actually Song Oak, until Kipo told him so.
    • Kipo finds out from both Lio and Scarlemagne that Dr Emilia is really the one who enslaved the Mega Monkey.
  • Laughing Mad: Hugo does this after ripping the blanket Lio originally gave him while trying to forcibly take baby Kipo from his arms, signifying that he's officially reached the deep end.
  • Start of Darkness: Discovering that Lio prioritized Kipo's safety over him is what drove Hugo into villany.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Quite literally. Hugo was once an Adorkable well-mannered little mandrill who enjoyed playing the piano, reading books, and wanted to be The Good King. But the experiments on him, the destruction of the burrow he lived and Lio abandoning him in favor of Kipo is what that finally made him snap.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: It's brief but Kipo calls out Lio for abandoning Hugo.
