After Kid discovers five powerful cosmic stones, he turns to teen waitress Jo for help in figuring them out — and keeping them out of the wrong hands.

- Aliens Speaking English: Justified for Chuck as he needs his translator to make his threats understood.
- Bait-and-Switch: When Jo is trying out her new power, she ends up falling from the sky, and the screen pans over to show a mattress, making it look as if she will land there... but instead she lands in front of it.
- Electricity Knocks You Out: Kid is trying to activate his "Rings of Power" and one of the methods he tries is charging it with electricity. He just ends up electrocuting himself, leaving him out cold for an extended period of time.
- Foreshadowing: Characters are introduced hinting at what power they will get.
- Rosa resents being treated as too little. She later gets the power of Size Shifting.
- Jo is on her phone looking longingly at exotic locations wishing she could be anywhere else but her tiny hometown. She gets the power of Thinking Up Portals.
- Not So Above It All: At first Jo feels like she's humoring Kid, playing along with his imagination. But when Kid proves that his Cosmic Rings of Power actually work, she immediately wants to join his superhero team.Jo: I don't want to relax, I WANT SUPERPOWERS!
- Ring of Power: Invoked by Kid, who glued the stones to hex nuts because he thought that it was cooler.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After learning of its power in teleportation, Jo attempts to use her ring to leave town. If that wasn't enough, she resorts in running away when it comes to dealing with Chuck and the Death Dog. It's only Kid convincing her to stay.
- This Is Reality: Jo tells Kid such statement in regards to Chuck and the Death Dog going after them.
