Tropes

  • Bad Liar: Kenan impersonates the groundskeeper (in which he gets the name wrong) to convince Principal Horn the field is covered with giant cockroaches. Principal Horn doesn't buy it.
  • Bittersweet Ending: In the outro, Kenan mentions he is grounded for the rest of the summer, his uncle is in tears, and he got a restraining order against the school. Though despite his stunt, it's also mentioned he still graduated and got into college, so it's not all bad for him.
  • Book Dumb: When Kenan gives his "speech", he cannot find an author as an influence.
Kenan: When they asked me to give this s-speech, because they did ask me, I was reminded of the lovely words by the poet, uh... William, uh... Long—Jones, III. Ahem! He said, uh... "When you dream... make sure you don't fall asleep on the bus, or you miss your stop." Happy graduation!
  • Deus ex Machina: Subverted. Kel arrives with a bulldozer to disrupt the ceremony, but he does this too late as everyone already knows Kenan's secret.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: While Kenan's stunt on Principal Horn was admittedly humiliating, forbidding him from attending the graduation ceremony was certainly too harsh a punishment.
  • Idiot Houdini: Kel gets away with recurrently making Kenan's situation worse and worse, with Principal Horn only punishing Kenan (increasingly, at Kel's goading) and Kel's stupidity exacerbating the "Fawlty Towers" Plot with his family. He does finally cross the line in the end, however, where it's mentioned that trying to sabotage the graduation by riding a bulldozer through it got him banned from the school along with Kenan.
  • Ironic Name: Kel's middle name is revealed to be Einstein Hypothalamus.
  • Literal-Minded:
Kenan: It's Principal Horn's first year, so we got to do something really spectacular so we can leave our mark on the school.
Kel: Good idea! We'll leave Marc on top of the school! (picks up Marc and throws him down)
  • Prank Gone Too Far: Kenan plans on filling Principal Horn's office with pudding as a "senior prank". Unfortunately, she arrives at the office too early and he accidentally sprays pudding all over her body. This gets Kenan forbidden from attending the graduation ceremony.
  • Rhetorical Request Blunder: In an act of desperation, Kenan hypothetically asks Kel what are the odds a bulldozer will come in and ruin the ceremony. Unfortunately, Kel manages to do just that after Kenan confesses the truth. This ends up getting Kenan banned from the school for life since he unintentionally planted the idea in Kel's head.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Kenan tries to flee from Principal Horn after giving his "speech", but she grabs him before he could do so.
    • Everyone evacuates from the field when Kel arrives with a bulldozer.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Kenan realizes he's screwed when Principal Horn arrives earlier than expected.
    Kenan: This is... bad.
  • Unwanted Assistance: Kel bulldozes the ceremony to help out Kenan. Of course, he does this after Kenan is already exposed; he gets banned from the school alongside Kenan because of this.
