With the Six Chiefs fearful of the Kabaneri, Ayame hands over the master key of the Kotetsujo to the chiefs. They take the Kotetsujo through a dangerous mountain path and attempt to leave Ikoma, Mumei and his friends behind. However, when a swarm of Kabane unexpectedly attacks the Kotetsujo, Ikoma and Mumei must help rescue the others.


Tropes in this episode:

  • Death by Irony: The chiefs attempting to disconnect the back car in fear of being attacked are quickly killed off.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Lampshaded for comic effect. Ikoma's friends did not let him live down pinning down Ayame.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The Wazatori stabs Kurusu in the stomach, injuring him in the process.
  • Irony: Ikoma's friends and Sukari are locked in the back section of the train, along with Ikoma and Mumei. The chiefs do it out of fear that they might get eaten by the Kabeneri, but it turns out to be the safest place to be when the Kabane actually attack.
  • Karmic Death: Some of the Six Chiefs are killed by the Kabane hiding in the very same exposed mountain path they decide to take. Also, they tried to disconnect the back car in fear of being attacked and instead they're killed and nearly gets everyone killed by the Kabane.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In episode 4, some of the Six Chiefs who disapproved of Mumei and Ikoma's Kabaneri status tries to disconnect their car, and during their attempts the Kabane invade taking out quite a few people including the chiefs.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Ayame cuts her arm and asks Ikoma to fight for her allies against the Kabane, which he accepts.
  • Oh, Crap!: The chiefs who are uncoupling the Kotetsujo's rear car are surprised when they realize that the Kabanes are about to kill them.
  • Redshirt: Kuranosuke and some of the chiefs who attempt to uncouple the rear car didn't make it.
  • You Are in Command Now: The Six Chiefs assume command of the Kotetsujo after Ayame gives the master key to them. At the end, the chiefs give the key back to Ayame after the Kabanes are defeated.
