"Well, ya might say he's clammin' up!"

Moo Moo Island Oysters is a 1960 Felix the Cat cartoon, and the 33rd episode of the Felix the Cat (Joe Oriolo) series.

Felix is busy drawing while idling on his Private Detective job when he gets a phone call, which results in water spraying in his face. It turns out to be a phone call from King Neptune, who tells Felix that his royal pearls are being robbed right out of their oysters on Moo Moo Island. Felix offers to help, but to his chagrin, the King can't offer a boat. Felix paces around for a moment, but simply decides to use his Magic Bag. Felix turns it into a canoe and rows to the island, getting caught in a storm along the way. Felix gets washed up on the island, and finds a message carved for him in stone there, a message from King Neptune telling him to follow the old trail to catch the crooks. Felix folds up his bag into nothing to make it easier to carry, and walks off into the water, taking a "No Breath Tablet" so he won't worry about drowning. Meanwhile, Professor and Rock are up to their old tricks, taking their own tablets and heading into the water. Professor and Rock find a grotto of oysters, and start stealing their pearls, using a device called the Oyster Shocker to open them up. Felix then shows up on the scene to arrest them both. Professor challenges him to a duel, and Felix grabs a swordfish to fight back. Professor then uses the Oyster Shocker to fry the swordfish into dust, and tries to electrocute Felix himself. Felix keeps backing up, and accidentally steps into a giant clam, which slams shut, trapping him in place.

Professor and Rock take a moment to mock Felix's predicament, and then get back to work stealing more pearls. Meanwhile, King Neptune is getting worried, since he hasn't heard anything from Felix yet. Neptune then calls on all the fish in the ocean and commands them to assist Felix in any way. Professor and Rock continuing poaching pearls, with Rock finding a Cultured Pearl, but then he abruptly gets strangled by a string of pearls. Back at the giant clam, Felix is still stuck, but an electric eel swims by, and Felix tricks him into shocking the clam, which sets him free. Felix dogpiles Professor and grabs his oyster shocker, forcing them into custody. Up from above, a turtle whistles for Felix, and then throws his shell onto Professor and Rock, trapping them. Felix brings them both to King Neptune, with all the stolen pearls returned. Neptune cheers for Felix, who rides off on a seahorse and laughs as the cartoon irises out.

Tropes:

  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Felix does this, but shows how he does it—he eats a "No Breath Tablet", which is filled with concentrated air and lets him stay underwater for 24 hours without breathing. It turns out Professor and Rock have access to the same tablets.
  • Thinking Tic: Felix does his classic pace when he wonders how he can get to Moo Moo Island.
  • Visual Pun: One of the pearls Rock Bottom catches is a Cultured Pearl, or rather, a pearl with a Graduation Cap on it.
