The North Pole and a Walrus Hunt is a 1961 Felix the Cat cartoon and the 115th episode of the Felix the Cat (Joe Oriolo) cartoons, directed by Joe Oriolo and distributed by Trans-Lux.

Felix is reading a book when he gets a phone call from a zookeeper, who asks him to go to the North Pole and bring back a mate for the zoos walrus. Felix asks for a 10,000$ fee upfront, and gets it, and leaves right away. Professor and Rock find out about this when reading the newspaper, and they decide to cash in on it. Felix checks in with a doctor and gets some pills, and heads north. Professor and Rock stay in an igloo near him and hatch a plan. They notice Felix walking outside without clothes on, and they try to follow suit, but they quickly freeze up. Felix drags them back inside and defrosts them, saying he wouldn't have found them if he hadn't gone back for his walrus call, and he promptly leaves to continue his search. Noticing his handy device, Professor and Rock decide to follow him. Felix starts making walrus calls, and comes across a baby walrus. He's quickly nabbed by a larger walrus, who is Rock in disguise, and the little walrus turns out to be Professor in disguise. They steal Felix's walrus caller and trap him inside of a sheet of ice from the waist up, setting him adrift in the frozen waters.

Felix tries and fails to free himself, but to no avail. Suddenly, he notices a big walrus nearby, and he decides this is the one he'll want for the zoo. Felix greets him and asks if he can call him Walter. The walrus agrees and uses his tusks to break Felix free of the ice. Back at the shore, Professor and Rock see Walter, and Rock blows the walrus caller. They put on their disguises as Felix and Walter come near. Felix notices the two "walruses" look familiar. Walter starts slapping around the disguised Rock, but Professor takes advantage of this to tie a rope around the walrus' tail. Walter swats him away, but Professor pops out of the snow with a gun in hand. Felix narrowly averts disaster by throwing a snowball at Professor just as he's about to fire his gun, making it go off in the air. Walter grabs both Professor and Rock, and Professor begs Felix to save them from the walrus. Felix agrees, but on one condition. Cut away to Felix mushing both Professor and Rock as they pull a sleigh with Felix and Walter on it. Rock comforts Professor by saying he only agreed to do this for a day, but Professor points out that a day up north lasts six months. Felix laughs as the cartoon irises out.

Tropes:

  • Full-Body Disguise: Rock Bottom and the Professor's walrus disguises completely cover them from head to toe, and their walrus masks also move with their own mouths when they talk wearing them.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Professor shows another rare instance where he can be a real threat, if only for a brief moment. He pulls out a realistic firearm and clearly intends to kill Walter, but Felix narrowly stops him in time.
  • Wingding Eyes: Professor's eyes turn into money symbols when he hears about the money Felix is getting for finding a walrus.
