Recap / Jack Of All Trades S1E4 "Once You Go Jack..."

Go To

Jack's old partner Kentucky Sue arrives on Palau-Palau to settle an old score... in a manner of speaking.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Kentucky Sue seems to genuinely like Jack and plans on marrying him. While Jack likes her and it's implied that the two of them had screwed in the past, he only likes her as a friend, complicating the arrangement.
  • Awesome Anachronistic Apparel: Kentucky Sue's name, accent, style of dress and demeanor have all the bells and whistles of The Wild West, but that era isn't for another 60 years or so.
  • Been There, Shaped History: Sue was suspected of treason against the Yankees and Jack was sent to kill her. Instead, he had smoked out the real traitor: Benedict Arnold.
  • Marked Bullet: Sue made a bullet with Jack's name on it (or at least his initials). While she made it to shoot him with it, she got over whatever led to their messy split.
  • Married to the Job: While Kentucky Sue wanted to settle down with Jack, or some equivalent given her violent tendencies, Jack had split up with her because his work in espionage was too important to national security. Not to mention he was sent to kill her.
  • Not Good with Rejection: When Jack tries turning her down, Kentucky Sue threatens to out Jack as the Daring Dragoon and later tries to shoot him and Emilie.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: When Jack and Sue become engaged, Sue demands (with the threat of violence) to be romanced traditionally. Flowers, poetry, sonnets, the works.
