Recap / If Wishes Were Ponies Chapter 19 The Bare Necessities

Go To

In this chapter, the Mane 6, CMC, Harry Potter, and Equestrian Guards take their first official trip to Little Whinging.

Tropes that kicked the plot into motion are as follows:

  • Classy Cane: Blueblood, to help him walk and still look dignified, gets one of these upon a suggestion from Harry. Twilight makes it for him, and he uses it for the rest of the story.
  • Closest Thing We Got: Harry is the only one with any knowledge of how to blend into modern-day England... despite the fact that he's a child who doesn't know too much about modern adult fashion. Despite this, his second-hand knowledge of fashion from overhearing his aunt allows him to help the scouts create passable, mundane human clothes.
  • Not So Above It All: Blueblood remains the snobby, pompous pony he was in canon. However, he's shown in this chapter to have a soft spot for Harry. Despite showing pride and ungratefulness when Twilight finishes making his cane, he gives Harry (who came up with the idea in the first place) a wink and a grateful nod.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Upon entering Little Whinging, the Mane 6 and the scouts spend some time at the neighborhood play park so they can get used to walking and running as bipeds. They do so by playing games with Harry and the fillies (with the adults falling down a lot, but laughing it off). The human adults who see this simply think that the adults are parents who are playing with their children, and some of them even compliment them for their parenting skills. The Equestrians pull this trope so they can maintain The Masquerade.
  • Trauma Button: Harry starts shaking when he looks at the scouts' map of Little Whinging and sees Number Four Privet Drive. The fillies are tempted to go there and get a little payback, but Harry (despite being sorely tempted to do the same), tells them not to.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Two of the female scouts that went through the portal almost did so wearing business suits. They honestly didn't know that anyone would have a problem with it; Harry has to tell them that this will make them stand out (especially in a place like Little Whinging). They switch costumes with two stallions.
