Recap / House S 3 E 22 Resignation

Go To

Directed by: Martha Mitchell

Written by: Pamela Davis

Dr. Foreman resigns. Dr. Cuddy very briefly interviews Foreman but doesn't try to talk him out of it.

A college student coughs up blood during karate class.

At clinic, House sees a vegan couple concerned about digestion. The man recently became a vegan, at the urging of his girlfriend, a nutrionist. It turns out that the man has been sneaking hamburgers. House seems to seriously consider replacing the neurologist (Foreman) with the nutritionist.

Wilson is acting strangely. It turns out House put amphetamines in his coffee.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • It Never Gets Any Easier: For Dr. Foreman, who begins the process of resigning.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Dr. Foreman laughs at one of Dr. House's jokes, and it's not a very good joke, according to Dr. Chase. Given that Foreman has never before laughed at one of House's jokes, Chase immediately leads Chase to jump to the conclusion that Foreman is uncomfortable or uncertain about his decision to resign.
    • Dr. Wilson yawns in the morning while drinking coffee, so he must be on antidepressants. He's not on antidepressants, he's on SPEEEED!
  • Stimulant Speedtalk: House spikes Wilson's coffee with amphetamines, resulting in him conducting conversations at a thousand miles an hour, being unable to stay on one topic, and frequently getting tripped up by what word to use. It's not until he belatedly notices his own erratic behavior that he takes stock of things, finds that he now has a heartrate of 185 bpm, realizes what's happened and goes to confront House about it - resulting in the now-memetic line "I'm not on antidepressants, I'm on speeeeeeeeeed!"
