Crosetti

Crosetti is found dead in the water in the harbor. All evidence points to the fact that he was Driven to Suicide, but Lewis refuses to believe it.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bad Liar: When Bolander interviews Chris Thormann about Crosetti, Thormann says that everything was fine with him. Bolander tells Chris that he can normally tell if someone's lying by looking into their eyes, and wonders if he'd be able to do that if Chris wasn't blind. That's when Eva presses him to tell Bolander the truth, and Thormann admits Lewis told him not to say anything.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: A variation - Russert is willing to help Giardello try to convince the police commissioner to give Crosetti a full honors funeral because when she was promoted to lieutenant, Crosetti was one of the few detectives who congratulated her.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: When Bayliss gets upset at Pembleton for trying to bargain down the price for food to serve at Crosetti's wake, Pembleton points out they've been given a limited budget, and if he spends too much on food, he won't have enough money for anything else.
  • Continuity Nod: When Crosetti had visited Thormann and his wife to find out how well he was recuperating, she told Crosetti she was pregnant. When Bolander visits Thormann to question him about Crosetti, Eva is carrying a baby around.
  • Cooldown Hug: After Munch reads the tox screen report, showing that Crosetti had alcohol and several drugs in his system, proving that he did kill himself, Lewis starts crying, and Bolander hugs him close.
  • Due to the Dead: Although Pembleton won't go to the funeral mass for Crosetti because he refuses to step into a church after his encounter with Annabella Wilgis, when Barnfather and Granger refuse to provide a funeral with full honors for Crosetti because he killed himself, Pembleton alone dons dress blues, stands in front of the Homicide building, and salutes Crosetti's coffin as the funeral procession passes by.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Bayliss, Giardello, and Howard all do this to Pembleton when he refuses to attend Crosetti's funeral mass. When Pembleton points out to Howard she should be angry at Barnfather and Granger because Crosetti was a good cop and should get a funeral with full honors, Howard responds she doesn't expect anything from Barnfather or Granger because she doesn't consider them real humans, but she expected something of Pembleton.
  • You Owe Me: When Lewis asks Felton to keep an eye on Bolander and Munch's investigation of Crosetti's death, and Felton is initially reluctant, Lewis reminds him he helped Felton's friend avoid prosecution for the assisted suicide of his father.
