Recap / Hayate The Combat Butler Volume 12

Go To

Nagi hears rumors that the strange effects at the Shimoda hot springs were caused by a UFO. Thinking about how cool that is, she turns to a star that her mother had previously claimed to be hers, and says a prayer asking to meet a real alien that could use its technology to give her a full-sized body.

And then, immediately after she finishes her prayer, such an alien crashes through the window behind her and lands in her bedroom.

This is where the Myth Arc of the series finally shows its true colors: after Nagi and the alien, Maya, find the UFO, Nagi spots Hayate going to Isumi's place to give blood, and immediately decides to investigate. After seeing him in what she perceives as an affair, she becomes down and begs Maya to take her along. The ship takes off with only Nagi inside, forcing Hayate to go after her by means of Isumi's now-restored power. When they reach the control room, the façade of aliens is dropped: their surroundings fall apart and Yukariko Sanzenin, Nagi's dead mother, addresses Hayate directly, praising him for his unconditional support for Nagi. Then Nagi and Hayate wake up next to her grave, revealed to be Nagi's real reason for visiting Shimoda. The rest of the cast has also been called there by an unknown entity, and Isumi reveals a drawing that Nagi made as a child containing Maya and her spaceship.

The volume also contains the White Day arc.

Tropes:

  • Breather Episode: After the intensity and drama of the Shimoda arc, the White Day arc is a fairly light-hearted one filled with miscommunication and comically bad luck.
