- Bait-and-Switch: Steve has a black eye and everyone assumes it happened out of spite. It was not the case: after he made up with Lynn, she treated him to a strip tease and accidentally threw her heel in his face.
- Call-Back:
- Steve's fight with Lynn happened due to her finding the ring he bought for Catherine.
- During the ending montage Kono is seen watching the footage of her wedding to Adam.
- Naked People Trapped Outside: Chin is forced to go to the front desk in nothing but a towel after he gets locked out of his room. Then he encounters Duke and his wife.
- Running Gag: Grover discovering everyone else got last minute Morimoto dates while he couldn't.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: While Morimoto didn't give Grover a last minute Valentines date (possibly as punishment for forgetting), the ending montage showed he cooked up a make up private dinner for him and his wife.
- Wham Shot: At the end, Abigail gives Chin a phone call and tells him she's in San Francisco now, only for the camera to pan out and reveal she's still in Hawaii.
