Tropes

  • Artistic License – Sports: Peanut reveals to Harvey that they're playing Gin, not Poker. But Gin Rummy is played between two players only, and with 10 cards rather than five. If they were playing Rummy, each player would have six cards instead of five as per the rules of a five player game. While X has a playable meld with his four kings, as well as Harvey with his three Jacks, they would still need to keep playing to get rid of the rest of their hand before tallying up points.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: When X puts on the crest, it compells him to do heroic acts against his will.
  • Destructive Saviour: Ricochet Rabbit's case is about his propensity to cause a lot of damage in his duties as a sheriff. When he loses the case, he's put on ADHD medication that turns him into a catatonic vegetable.
  • Five-Aces Cheater: Potamus pulls this in the card game by presenting "Five Aces". All of them drawn on cards with the fifth suit being a peanut.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: After finally getting Harvey's crest and learning that F.E.A.R. moved to another location and didn't tell him their new address during the intervening thirty years, X dons it himself and becomes a superhero. However, Harvey tricks him into giving it back, and X immediately returns to form, vowing to steal the crest once again.
  • Team Rocket Wins: After 30 years, X has finally managed to steal Harvey's crest.
  • The Magic Poker Equation: Harvey bets his hand in a game of cards, and while he has a full house, X has four of a kind. Even if they were actually playing Poker instead of Gin, X would still have him beat.
  • Swapped Roles: When X puts on the crest, he is compelled to become a superhero. When Birdman finds out, he suffers a Sanity Slippage and almost starts acting like X did, vowing to steal his crest back. He's even caught building a death console that looks an awful lot like the one X frequently uses.
  • Wanting Is Better Than Having: Even as his new career in super-heroism gets him media attention, X confesses that he had lost his purpose now that he has the crest.
