Oh, remember that you fashioned me from clay! Will you then bring me down to dust?
Nick and Hank are called to an unusual crime scene with a victim who appears to have died from clay-induced asphyxiation. At the precinct, Wu begins to grow more suspicious of Trubel's presence.
At the Spice Shop, Elizabeth makes a major breakthrough with regards to restoring Nick's powers, while Monroe and Rosalee experience cultural backlash as a result of their inter-Wesen marriage.
In Europe, Adalind hopes that putting trust in her mysterious visitor will help her escape the dungeon.
This episode provides examples of:
- Asshole Victim: Both victims of the golem are horrible, child abusing, wife beating, psychopaths.
- Awesomeness by Analysis: Elizabeth works out the whole history of Nick and Adalind just by identifying the spell she used to depower Nick. Monroe and Rosalee are visibly impressed.
- Call-Back: Trubel learns about non-Wesen supernaturals. La Llorona and Volcanalis are both mentioned.
- Maligned Mixed Marriage: A brick with a Wolfsangel on it is thrown through the window of the Spice Shop in protest against Monroe and Rosalee's marriage.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Ben Fischer, when he realises his prayer to raise a golem to protect his family worked. He confesses to Nick and Hank, but as Nick points out, they can't exactly arrest him for praying.
- Oh, Crap!: Juliette, after being told the Monster of the Week wasn't of Wesen origin. It's clearly sinking in that Nick not being a Grimm doesn't mean he's safe from mystical dangers.
- Shout-Out:
- The title obviously refers to Livin On A Prayer.
- The Golem looks quite a lot like The Thing.
- Troll: Elizabeth has a little bit of fun with the doppelganger potion that allows her to transform into Adalind. She pretends to be Adalind to mess with Rosalee and Monroe.
