Penguin, having been recovered from what was supposed to be his watery grave by Ivy, plots his revenge against Nygma, while Gordon discovers the shocking truth about his father's death and Bruce is approached by a mysterious sage who has a connection to the Court of Owls.

  • The Atoner: Frank is revealed to have been the one who had put the contract out on Jim's father, but he regrets having done it and intends to make sure Gordon joins so he can destroy it from the inside before they can destroy Gotham.
  • Berserk Button: Gabe calling Penguin a freak causes him to snap and butcher him.
  • Hear Me the Money: Barbara takes money from a henchman, thumbs it against her ear, and determines that there's not enough.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When ordered to kill Gordon, Frank instead shoots himself in the head in an attempt to facilitate Gordon's entry into the Court as an anti-Court mole.
  • Mind Control: Ivy's mind control perfume makes a reappearance.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Gabe turns on Penguin for all the times he treated him as just Dumb Muscle.
  • The Mole: Frank truly intends for Gordon to be this to the Court, an instrument of its destruction from the inside. Gordon executes his uncle's plan in the final scene.
  • N-Word Privileges: Penguin butchers Gabe for calling him a freak, but he doesn't react anywhere near as violently when Ivy does so; it helped her case that he sees her as a freak, too.
  • Oh, Crap!: Gabe coming up from behind to ask if Ivy doesn't trust him. Penguin nods, then his face suddenly narrows as he turns just before Gabe knocks him out.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: As soon as the Talon slices up her men, Barbara immediately takes off running with Tabitha.
  • Shoe Slap: Barbara smacks a thug in the head with her stiletto when she finds out he's been stealing from her.
  • Villain Team-Up: Ivy, still burgeoning as a villain, talks Penguin into a partnership, and offers help in recruiting other "freaks" for his army.
  • You Killed My Father: Gordon accuses Falcone of ordering his father dead, but this gets averted by the fact that the extent of Falcone's involvement, as the man himself confirms, was paying for the defense of the perp.
