Tropes

  • Accidental Hero: The team only threw away the money to distract the cops. They never expected the people of the neighborhood to embrace them as heroes and be inspired to expose the mobsters extorting them. Harper sums up how "they think we did it out of the goodness of our hearts."
  • Bad Liar: It takes thirty seconds for Harvey's shrink to realize the "criminal" he's talking about with memory issues is Harvey himself.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Harvey is terrified he might become like his father, who would swap from a truly loving father to a monstrous abuser and then back with no memory of what happened.
  • Money to Throw Away: A textbook example as the team tosses the mob's dirty money out, the people of the neighborhood racing to get it and blocking the cops chasing them. Duela, of course, acts like she's being tortured seeing it all go away.
  • Mythology Gag: The team escapes by throwing their stolen cash onto the streets so people will run out into the streets, forcing their pursuers to stop. The Terrible Trio used this trick to evade Batman in Batman: The Animated Series.
  • Shout-Out: A character commits robbery in order to provide financial aid to a loved one's gender reassignment surgery, much like in Dog Day Afternoon (which is itself based on a true story).
  • Spotting the Thread: Harper realizes the mobsters have way more money than a simple protection racket should make and realizes they're laundering money for the Court of Owls.
  • Title Drop: Watching the TV news, the gang is rocked by people thinking they're heroes, already being called "the Gotham Knights."
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Harvey is taken aback to wake up naked in bed with Rebecca March making it clear they just spent the night together and he has no memory of any of it.
