    • Hijikata and Nagakura end up involved in a gang war on the small city of Barato, when it becomes clear one of the gangs is in possession of a tattooed skin. However, on the opposite side of the war, Ogata is also interested in the skin.

    • While staying at one of Hucci's sisters' kotan, Asirpa leads her group into trying to get back a lost family heirloom from a rich American living nearby. The man agrees, but only if they help him with a problem of a seemingly immortal bear trying to kill his horses.

    • Tsurumi befriends Edogai, an eccentric taxidermist that works with human skin from corpses. Under his guidance, Edogai starts producing something that will throw the hunt for gold into mayhem: fake tattooed skins.

    • While being forced to work together with Hijikata against the threat of the fake skins, Sugimoto, his group, and Ogata seek rest in a kotan where something seems to be off about the men living there.

    • Two thieves gathering infamy around Hokkaido, Lightning and O-Gin, lead a group of small time thugs in a heist to steal one of the skins from a mob group.
  • Shiton Anehata Arc

    • Meeting with Inkarmat and Cikapasi, Sugimoto's group learns that Tanigaki is being kept locked up on allegations that he defiled the local wildlife. To prove his innocence, Sugimoto's group sets off to find the real culprit within the days before Tanigaki's punishment gets dolled out.

    • Chapters: 115-124
    • Sugimoto's group stops at an Onsen Inn to relax, at which point, the rumored blind bandits that had been raiding nearby Ainu villages attack them during their time at the hot springs. Asirpa deals with troubling revelations about her father and Kiroranke.
  • Abashiri Prison Arc
    • Chapters: 125-138
    • Finally getting to Abashiri Prison, Sugimoto and Hijikata's group prepare their plan to get Asirpa to meet Noppera-bou in prison, but things go south in their plan fast.

    • Separated from Asirpa, Sugimoto is forced to make a deal with the 7th Division: In exchange for just enough money for Ume's surgery and their help to get Asirpa back, he'll help them get the gold. Oblivious to his survival after the prison break, Asirpa is taken by Ogata and Kiroranke to Karafuto, north of Hokkaido, to try to find more about her father and what might be the key to solve the tattoos puzzle.

    • Chapters: 148-154
    • Hijitaka comes to learn about another convict living nearby on a seaside town: Youichirou, a now-elderly manslayer.
  • Karafuto Circus Arc
    • Chapters: 155-158
    • Sugimoto cracks a plan to get the word about his survival to somewhere closer to Asirpa: he'll join the circus and make his act sufficiently famous so that all of Karafuto and Far East Russia will have heard about him. This, however, puts him in a rivalry against Koito, whose act steals the show.
  • Border Crossing Arc
    • Chapters: 159-170
    • Getting to the border between Japan and Russia, Kiroranke's group is surrounded by Russian forces coming after him. This locks Ogata and Vasily, a Russian sniper, in a Sniper Duel against each other.
  • Pet Monster Arc
    • Chapters: 171-176
    • Kadokura is tasked with investigating another possible convict around when Hijikata and Ushiyama both go missing.
  • Akou Prison Break Arc
    • Chapters: 177-190
    • Getting to the Akou Prison in Russia, Kiroranke's group plans a big break out to get Sofia Golden Hand, a former ally of his and Wilk's, to out of prison, as she may have the key to solve the tattooed skins puzzle.
  • Return to Karafuto Arc
    • Chapters: 191-200

    • Chapters: 201-216
  • Bear Man Arc
    • Chapters: 217-222
    • Shiraishi and Sugimoto rescue a gold panner from falling from a cliff and he decides to help them get some money by teaching them about some gold panning strategies. However, a Wen Kamuy bear has been sighted nearby.
  • Boutarou the Pirate Arc
    • Chapters: 223-238
    • Sugimoto's group formulates a plan to find the gold since they're mostly out of skins: figure out where the gold comes from, and use it to reduce the area where the gold might be based on the different properties of the gold in each river. Finding information with the gold panner of the previous arc, they set off and find another person with the same idea: the convict Boutarou the Pirate, who is trying to rob the steamboat they're traveling in.
  • Town of Reunions Arc
    • Chapters: 239-273
    • The final 2 convicts gather in Sapporo, getting all of the groups in the hunt for the gold together in a single city to solve a string of murders based on Jack, The Ripper.
  • Tokyo Love Story Arc
    • Chapters: 274-279
    • In a multiple chapter flashback, the story of how Sugimoto and Mokutarou Kikuta first met is told. A young Sugimoto has just gotten in Tokyo and gets involved in Kikuta's task of botching an attempt to marry Yuusaku Hanazawa and get him to lose his virginity.
  • Hakodate Arc
    • Chapters: 280-314
    • With the final skins in hand, both groups now are aware of the true location of the gold, and they set off on a final race to get it. This is the final arc of the manga.
