Go To

The first episode of the third season of Garfield and Friends.

Post-opening sequence line: "And just remember what you paid to get in."

Skyway Robbery

Jon, Garfield and Odie decide to go to Miami via plane, but are unable to pay due to the high price (even unwilling to risk being humiliated for the money Jon has). Just then A.G. Swindler offers Jon a cheaper trip with all the money he has. But Garfield and Odie realize it is a con and try to tell him, but as they can't speak, Jon doesn't listen. They even try to leave him but Jon drags them into the plane. It turns out to be a cheap and broken airplane and once it flies into the air, the plane begins to malfunction and Swindler parachutes off the plane. Panicking, they call the air traffic control and with the Italian food hints he gives, Garfield manages to land the plan safely. Only they ended up at the south pole. Stubborn, Jon refuses to go back inside the plane and tries to find a place to stay. Until they see Swindler again and they rush back into the plane and fly away.

The Bunny Rabbits is Coming!

Orson receives a strange message that simply says, "The Bunny Rabbits is Coming!". Wade is terrified of these so called bunny rabbits.

Close Encounters of the Garfield Kind

An alien crash lands near Garfield's home. Jon thinks the alien is cute, and decides to let the alien stay at his house while he gathers enough electricity to jump start his flying saucer. Little does he know what this alien is up to.

"Skyway Robbery" contains examples of:

  • Boring Vacation Slideshow: Discussed; when Jon looks over the different flight options, the terminal worker tells him that Fourth Class Cargo lets him squat in the baggage hold and eat pretzels while the stewardess shows him her vacation slides.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When the plane appears as if it is about to crash into the control tower, Garfield turns to the viewers and says "Kids, check your TV listings, make sure this isn't the last episode!"
  • Con Man: Al Swindler
  • Episode on a Plane: In this episode, Jon tries to fly to Miami, but due to how little money he has, Swindler cons him out of his money for a ride on a cheap and broken airplane.
  • Just Plane Wrong: Swindler takes Jon to Miami ''even he doesn't know where it is', the plane is rundown and broken, and in the air Swindler decides to ditch the plane.

"The Bunny Rabbits is Coming!" contains examples of:

  • Animals Not to Scale: Those "bunny rabbits" that Wade freaks out over? They're huge.
  • Bag of Kidnapping: The Weasel uses two of these bags; the first on the chickens, and the second on Orson and his friends.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The bunny rabbits save Orson and his friends when they trample the Weasel.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: At one point, while he's freaking out over the bunny rabbits that are apparently coming, Wade screams at the audience, "WHY ARE YOU JUST SITTING THERE WATCHING TELEVISION?! DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THE BUNNY RABBITS IS COMING?!"
  • Call-Back: The aforementioned fourth wall joke was previously used in "Wade: You're Afraid," in response to a bull being loose.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Wade's song about why he's afraid all the time.
  • The Door Slams You: During Wade's song, the Weasel appears in a doorway when Wade opens the door above him, hitting him with it.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Plato, the antagonist of the follow-up US Acres short ("Cock-A-Doodle Duel"), makes a brief cameo as the owner of the titular bunny rabbits.
  • Fear Song: Wade sings about his overwhelming fear of everything, even nonsensical items like flannel shirts and raisins.
  • Impact Silhouette: After the bunny rabbits trample the Weasel, a Weasel-shaped hole appears in the ground.
  • Mobile Shrubbery: The Weasel hides in a hollow tree stump, which he wears as a costume upon hearing from Wade that the bunny rabbits are coming.
  • Running Gag: People keep commenting "Shouldn't that be 'the bunny rabbits ARE coming'?"
  • The Runt at the End: When the bunny rabbits trample the Weasel, the last one struggles to keep up with the rest.
  • Wicked Weasel: The Weasel returns in this episode, attempting to steal the farm's chickens.

"Close Encounters of the Garfield Kind" contains examples of:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The alien appears to be nice and friendly but reveals himself to be an informant for an imperial race of aliens looking to take over the world.
  • Genre Savvy: Garfield can see the sci-fi tropes in the movie he, Jon and Odie are watching from a mile away.
  • Latex Perfection: The alien wears such a mask to make him look cute and friendly, complete with big eyes and cartoon antennae. Under the mask he has a hideous green frog-like face with worm-like hair.
  • Stylistic Suck: The sci-fi movie Garfield, Jon and Odie watch at the beginning is a pretty obvious send up of cheesy made-for-TV films. Right down to having a cardboard space ship.
