• It Only Works Once: A variation when Roy and Armstorng are discussing confirmation of the conspiracy and their battlefield reassignment. Armstorng questions why the conspiracy is setting them up to be killed on a hostile battlefront rather than just have them killed right here in Central and be done with it. Roy correctly surmises they can't because of the murder of Hughes. Killing Roy, Armstrong, and company the same way would risk raising too much suspicion and scrutiny.
• Locked Out of the Loop: Played with. Hohenheim is initially angry Ed and Al didn't tell him they'd tried to transmute Trisha. However, Hohenheim then admits that, on some level, he knew. He was just in denial and didn't want to accept it.
• Wham Shot: In-story example. Hohenheim seeing Trisha-as-Sloth and realizing what his sons did.
