Ross and Rachel have their first date. Monica gets a job catering for her dad's old friend Richard. Joey and Chandler turn into lazy TV addicts.

- Age-Gap Romance: Monica starts dating Richard even though he's old enough to be her father, is friends with her actual parents and knew her as a child. She briefly wonders if it's too weird but decides she likes him enough to push past it.Monica: I'm dating a man whose pool I once peed in.
Richard: I didn't need to know that. - Cool Chair: Joey buys a set of black leather La-Z-Boy chairs, one for him and one for Chandler. Once they sit down it becomes impossible to remove them. The Stinger has them refuse to get up even as the fire alarm starts going off.
- Hash House Lingo: Monica is dubious that Phoebe can be a waitress. Phoebe gives the following demonstration of her abilities; too bad catering Richard's dinner party doesn't really require this kind of lingo:Phoebe: I can be a waitress. Okay, watch this. Um, gimme two number ones, 86 the bacon, one Adam and Eve on a raft and wreck 'em, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la.
- Jizzed in My Pants: Rachel thinks this happens to Ross when they start making out at the museum, but they were just lying on a juice box.
- Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Due to Ross being called in to work he and Rachel end up having sex for the first time in the museum. They wake up the next morning in one of the exhibits...with a group of Catholic school students on a field trip staring at them in shock.
- Quizzical Tilt: Richard claims that ever since he got divorced people have been doing the "Sympathetic Head Tilt" whenever they ask how he's feeling.
