Recap / Frasier S 06 E 22 Visions Of Daphne

Go To

When Donny plans to propose to Daphne, she is at first excited once she's clued in but soon has a vision that makes her believe that there's someone else out there for her and Niles takes the opportunity to steal her from Donny.

Tropes:

  • It's All My Fault: Niles realizes this. It is even partially his fault Daphne and Donnie ever met.
Martin: I'd do anything to fix this for you, son.
Niles: It's my own fault. I had chance after chance to tell her how I feel and I always kept my mouth shut.
  • Offending the Fool: Daphne is heartbroken when Niles (though with Frasier and Martin's urging) tells her that maybe her vision isn't what she thought it meant and she interprets this as him saying he was only humoring her out of patronizing pity.
  • Rule of Symbolism: As Frasier notes, Daphne's vision isn't a warning from the universe that there's another person for her to marry but rather it means that Daphne has repressed trepidations of being proposed to.
  • Wham Shot: Daphne gets another vision of her mystery man holding a dragon. She interprets this as a sign that everyone was right and it was just a representation of her fears. The episode then cuts to Niles in his office opening the present Roz got him: a statue of a dragon.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Frasier is upset with Niles using Daphne's vision as an opportunity to finally woo her instead of doing the morally correct thing and tell her that her vision means that she's fearful of commitment.
