Recap / Fraggle Rock Back To The Rock S 1 E 14 Night Of The Lights

Go To

It's Night of the Lights, the Fraggles' very Christmas-like holiday. Jamdolin, the leader of the Troubadours, arrives and encourages Wembley to make a special wish for the holiday. The Fraggles head on an adventure into the Gorgs' garden to find the brightest light. Red worries that she has not gotten a present for Mokey.

Meanwhile, Doc is away visiting her grandmother, who is allergic to dogs, and has to leave Sprocket at home. Uncle Traveling Matt observes various human holiday traditions, which he mistakes for Night of the Lights. The Gorgs decorate their castle with Christmas lights.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?:
Jamdolin: You Fraggles know what I'm thinking?
Gobo: That we should put on matching holiday sweaters? I mean, I'm not cold, but that could be fun.
  • Bearded Baby: The World's Oldest Fraggle, in the flashback to when he was the World's Youngest Fraggle, still has his long white beard. Red questions this, but the World's Oldest Fraggle is insistent.
  • The Cameo: Mudwell the Mudbunny, a character from the original show, makes a cameo here, despite having died in his one episode of the previous series. Then again, this show isn't really in continuity with that one.
  • Christmas Episode: Obviously.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Travelling Matt observes Diwali, Hannuka, Kwanzaa and Christmas, and concludes that all Silly Creatures celebrate the same festival, which is of course the Night of Lights.
  • Everyone Hates Fruitcakes: Boober's "root cake" gets the same reaction.
  • Plot Allergy: It's established that Doc is visiting her grandmother, who is allergic to dogs, hence why Sprocket can't come with her and must stay with Mrs. Shimmelfinney.
  • Tempting Fate: When the Fraggles get separated from the World's Oldest Fraggle in the cave.
    Jamdolin: That's an interesting development.
Wembley: That's one way to put it!
Gobo: Oh, don't worry, Wembley. We'll find him. It's not like we're lost out here in the dark. Besides, we still have our Glow Grapes.
[Two Num-Num Birds appear and, despite the Fraggles' protests, grab the Glow Grapes out of Gobo's and Wembley's hands and devour them, plunging the Fraggles into darkness.]
Num-Num Birds: Sorry! We're very hungry this time of year!
  • You Mean "Xmas": The Night of the Lights.
