Recap / Final Space S 1 E 2 Chapter 2

Go To

Gary joins Avocato in a quest to stop a bounty hunter named Terk from giving important information to Lord Commander. While they are gone, a masked intruder boards the Galaxy 1. Meanwhile, Quinn investigates the crash of the spaceship Imperium T3.

Tropes

  • An Arm and a Leg: Gary loses his left arm when the Lord Commander telepathically tears it off. Mooncake later tears an arm of a SAME named Rob to give to Gary.
  • Cassandra Truth: The Infinity Guard commanders refuse to believe Quinn when she warns them about the Imperium T3 having crashed due to a cosmic disturbance, despite Quinn presenting them the evidence.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Gary uses KVN as a tool to smash a Ventrexian stealth probe that infiltrated the Galaxy 1 and discovered Mooncake.
  • High-Pressure Blood: Gary’s arm squirts blood when torn off, spilling way more blood than should be possible.
  • Laser Hallway: HUE deploys one to stop the alien that boarded the Galaxy 1. It fails since the intruder simply disables him.
  • Lured into a Trap: Terk gives Avocato the location of his son’s prison in a failed attempt to save his own life. The information is correct, but it turns out to be part of a trap by the Lord Commander.
  • Mistaken Identity: On Terra Con Prime, Gary is forced to use the skin of a dead female Hooblat named Melanie DeWinter as disguise. This leads to an awkward (and sad) situation when he runs into the mourning husband and kids of Melanie, who think she’s not dead after all.
  • Musical Chores: While the SAMES are repairing the damage to the Galaxy 1, KVN sings a song about them plugging the holes.
  • Not Now, Kiddo: Gary ignores KVN when he tries to tell him about the intruder.
  • Not So Stoic: After the last episode established Avocato as a fairly level-headed if grumpy character, he clearly shows shock and fear when Terk reveals Little Cato's location, and is pretty close to tears when he tries to talk to Little Cato through the glass of his cell.
  • Oh, Crap!: Said almost word for word by Gary when he runs into Melanie’s family, and is mistaken for her by them.
    • Little Cato's body language screams this when he sees his father outside his cell, indicating that he knows he was being used as bait for his father.
    • Avocato when he makes out that Little Cato is warning him about an ambush just outside his cell.
  • Overly Long Gag: Turk just keeps screaming in agony after Avocato shoots him before finally exploding, to the point that Avocato grows bored of it.
  • Portrait Painting Peephole: A variation; the eyes of the various statues of the Lord Commander act as security camera’s. When Avocato and Gary walk past a statue, it’s eyes move to follow them.
  • Previously on…: The episode opens with a recap of the previous episode.
  • Race Against the Clock: To ensure that Gary, who is still a prisoner, doesn’t use the mission to Terra Con Prime as an excuse to escape, HUE injects him with a device that will cause Gary’s brain to explode if he’s not back on the Galaxy 1 within 5 hours. He’s bluffing.
  • The Reveal: Near the end of the episode, the intruder takes off her helmet and reveals herselve as Nightfall, a future version of Quinn.
  • Rogue Agent: Quinn decides to become one when it’s clear the Infinity Guard commanders won’t back her up to further investigate what caused the crash of the Imperium T3.
  • Samus Is a Girl: The mysterious intruder is revealed to be a future version of Quinn known as Nightfall.
  • Wall Crawl: The intruder boarding the Galaxy 1 uses magnetic shoes to counter HUE’s anti-gravity defenses, thus allowing them to walk on the ceiling.
  • Wretched Hive: Terra Con Prime, which is filled with bounty hunters, criminals and black market traders, and a corrupt police force.
  • You Can Talk?: Clarence has this reaction when he hears Gary, whom he assumes to be an unintelligent primate, talk.
