While searching for Wendell, Sarah crosses paths with a dangerous survivor.
Tropes:
- Call-Back: It’s mentioned how Wendell hasn’t been seen since the dam.
- Character Death: Rufus dies when he is put down by Josiah after being bit by Emile’s head.
- Enemy Mine: Sarah and Josiah are forced to work together, particularly towards the end of the episode when they are trapped by walkers.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Emile and Josiah were close-knit twin brothers, and Josiah’s whole motivation is to avenge his death.
- Evil Gloating: Once again, Strand takes the opportunity to gloat to Morgan about how bad off he is and how great things are going for him.
- Face–Heel Turn: Josiah tells Morgan that Emile was not always the bloodthirsty hunter that pursued him last season.
- Heel–Face Turn: Josiah goes from an antagonist to an ally of Morgan by the end of the episode.
- I Gave My Word: Even after giving up his vendetta against Morgan, Josiah agrees to join him and Sarah in heading for Strand’s tower to look for Wendell and fulfill their deal.
- Kill the Cutie: Poor Rufus is bit by Emile’s head and has to be put down by Josiah.
- Last Request: Played With. Josiah gives Rufus beans for his last meal as they’re his favorite food.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Josiah is appropriately horrified when Rufus is accidentally bit by Emile’s head and almost says this trope word for word.
- Noble Demon: Josiah eventually subverts this. While an antagonist, he proves to be a reasonable man with a code of honor, and eventually is convinced to become an ally of Morgan.
- Sadistic Choice: Josiah forces Sarah to hire him to find Wendell, at the cost of leading him to Morgan to kill. If she refuses, then he’ll go after Wendell himself.
- Shoot the Dog: Literally so when Josiah is forced to put down Rufus.
- Wham Shot: At the end of the episode, the Stalkers are revealed to have one of the warheads in their possession.
- Zombie Infectee: Rufus is bit by Emile’s head.
