The angel... or the devil? It's Daniel's choice.
Written By Alan Page
Directed By Alex Garcia Lopez

Daniel: Forgive me, like you forgive these things out there. Forgive me, too!
Efrain: But, old man, who am I to forgive you?

Through flashbacks, Daniel had survived the fire and escaped into Tijuana, where he was saved from death by a band of refugees headed by Efrain Morales, who consoles Daniel's grief for losing Ofelia. While fending off Walkers, Daniel falls into the sewers leading to the Gonzalez Dam, where he is spared death by Lola Guerrero, one of Dante's workers. Daniel's military expertise has him made one of Dante's operatives, and he betrays Efrain and later tortures him – but Lola exposes her complicity in water thefts to stop it. Strand is also awaiting execution, and offers to take Daniel to Ofelia at the hotel. Although Daniel helps execute one of Lola's workers, rather than kill Lola he kills Dante and his bodyguards, handing the dam over to Lola.

Tropes:

  • Boom, Headshot!: J.C. and Dante are killed this way by Daniel.
  • The Brute: J.C. is demoted from The Dragon to Dante after Daniel reveals his past as an agent and torturer for the Salvadoran dictatorship during the Salvador Civil War.
  • Destination Defenestration: Pablito is executed this way for aiding Lola.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: After being set up as an important antagonist, Dante is killed by the end of the episode.
  • The Dragon: Dante recruits Daniel as his top enforcer after finding out about his past.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: After Daniel leaves Efrain's house during a thunderstorm, he encounters a couple of walkers. He kills one, but is unable to take the second out and instead falls on his knees praying. And then a lightning bolt hits a zombie directly in the head and kills him.
  • The Mole: Lola is one for the people of Tijuana, activating the water supply for a single fountain every day at five o'clock behind Dante's back.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Daniel feels guilty about setting fire to Celia's mansion, believing he may have endangered his daughter in the process.
Daniel: We were in a house, surrounded by death. I was trying to protect her. I swear. But... my mind wasn't right. I woke up in a fire. And I heard her... calling me. I was trapped. I was burning. The ceiling was collapsing. I fought, and I fought, and I got out. I don't know how, but I got out. And then I collapsed. And when I came to... no one was left alive. All burned.
Efrain: What are you saying, Daniel?
Daniel: I don't know if... I burned my daughter alive!
  • The Starscream: A heroic example. Daniel turns on Dante, kills three of his thugs - J.C. and Othón among them - and then kills Dante himself instead of executing Lola, Efrain, Everardo and Victor.

"You'll always be... a goddamn dog-"
