The Pride of the Prydes is the third episode of the second season of Father Brown.
The grand opening of Pryde Castle ends in disaster when a guide is struck by an arrow. Contrary to Inspector Sullivan, Father Brown becomes convinced that the motive lies buried in the family's past.
Tropes:
- Better to Die than Be Killed: The killer takes this course of action after realising that it's either the scaffold or the lunatic asylum for him, despite Father Brown doing his very best to convince him otherwise.
- Mercy Kill: The son of the woman who supposedly cursed the Pryde family shot her through the heart to spare her the fate of being burned alive at the stake. In the present day, Lady Lavinia attempts to poison Jago to spare him the fate of being hung for his crimes.
- Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor: Bunty Pryde is torn between the gentlemanly, filthy rich Marquess she's betrothed to and the penniless lawyer who she's having a fling with. She end up choosing the lawyer, though by the time she makes up her mind his financial situation has been turned on its head due to Father Brown revealing that his father is the rightful inheritor of the Pryde assets.
