The Face of Death is the eight episode of the first season of Father Brown.
After a murder at the Kembleford charity treasure hunt, general suspicion falls upon a bereaved man who wants revenge. However, Father Brown is determined to prove the man's innocence.
Tropes:
- Dawson Casting: The "child" daughter Lucia played by 27-year-old Flora Spencer Longhurst (b. ~1985).
- Death by Woman Scorned: Or rather, Man Scorned, as the cheated-on party, Professor Galloway, kills both his unfaithful spouse and her lover in revenge.
- And someone he wronged, as a scapegoat. And almost, a Catholic priest.
- Drives Like Crazy: Played with. Lady Galloway tried to stop when she saw Walsh's father, but hit the wrong pedal, supposedly due to her dyslexia.
- Dying Clue: Lady Galloway writes a bloody message on her pillow, but due to her dyslexia, she winds up writing the letter 'P' back to front, causing most people to mistake it for the number 9 at first glance.
- Faux Affably Evil: Professor Galloway is definitely this.
- "L" Is for "Dyslexia": Lucia and Lady Margaret Galloway. It's the fact that Lucia inherited the condition from her mother that leads Father Brown to solve the mystery.
- Mental Handicap, Moral Deficiency: Lucia is made to feel this way for being "slow" (aka dyslexic). It is surmised that Lady Galloway did as well.
