It is 2017, and Rabbi Abraham Levi, the man who showed Queen Isabel about the time gates and was rescued by the Patrol from dying, has been kidnapped by the Ángel Exterminador, who want to know how to travel beyond 2017, threatening to torture him if he does not tell them how to do it. Unbeknownst to them, Abraham has been making a special drawing on the floor, which allows him to travel to the past, where he is met by an old, religious man.
Back in 2017, in Peñíscola, a couple is kissing when an old man in obviously religious clothing comes to warn them time is in danger. In the Ministry, Lola officially joins Alonso and Pacino, and the new trio is told to go to Peñíscola to find the old man (who turns out to be Antipope Benedict XIII, the "Papa Luna"
, while the Ángel Exterminador's boss threatens to kill the Rabbi's family. Pacino asks Salvador what will happen to Marta, whom he has learned has been captured. Before leaving, Alonso throws a coin and decides that Pacino will become the leader.
In the Peñíscola hospital, one of the Ángel Exterminador's agents attempts to steal a book that was amongst the Papa Luna's belongings, but a policeman prevents him.
In the Ministry, Salvador speaks with Marta and tells her Pere Folch is dead, with both of them arguing over the morality of each other's actions. Salvador tells Ernesto and Irene that he is considering what to do with Marta.
The trio arrives to the hospital and meets the Papa Luna, who tells them about Abraham Leví's sudden appearance in his rooms and why he came to the present: he was protecting a book the Rabbi gave him, and after being poisoned (an assassination attempt by his enemies) he escaped to the future. While the trio takes him away, the Ángel Exterminador's agent warns his boss, who threatens to kill the Rabbi while his men find the drawings the Rabbi had made.
After a brief visit (and corresponding shock) to present time Peñíscola, he is taken to the past, where he requests the team to take a hold of the Rabbi's book and to remain at Peñíscola just the one night.
Salvador reminisces about how he first arrived to the Ministry, being shown around by then Prime Minister Adolfo Suárez, who gave him a few tips on what to do should he face any trouble, and decides to dine with Marta.
In 1417, neither Alonso nor Pacino are able to make head or tails of the book, but Lola has a bit more of success in understanding and makes a surprising discovery: it is possible to travel to the future, with one page mentioning a gate to 2025, which sparks memories in Pacino. Pacino makes photographies of all the pages.
Salvador speaks with Marta, and offers her a chance to return to her time in 1821 - but asks her about the men that tried to help her free her father. He makes an offer: she may return to the past and save her father from being executed, if she passes some information.
In 1417, a sleeping Alonso and Pacino are awakened by gunshots: the Ángel Exterminador have come in to look for the book. Alonso wants to help the Papa Luna, but the Ángel Exterminador are greater in number and go after the trio, who sneak through another door that appears to take them to the time of the Crusades, where they are met with several Templar knights that confuse him for a former Templar.
In the present, Salvador manages to convince the 1821 Undersecretary to help get Marta's father in exchange of a coffee machine.
In the past, Pacino and Lola are waiting for a ceremony when the Ángel Exterminador agent calls Pacino: he threatens to kill both the Papa Luna and the Rabbi unless he gives them the Rabbi's book. Left with no ideas, Pacino suggests recruiting the Templars to fight with them against the Ángel Exterminador, which Alonso does, reluctantly.
The Ministry gets Marta's father out of prison and bring him to the Ministry - only for the man to attack his daughter, accusing her of being a traitor.
In the past, the trio and the Templars prepare for battle against the Ángel Exterminador in 1417. When morning comes, the Trio shows up for the Hostage for MacGuffin exchange... and the fight begins. The Templars manage to kill several of the Ángel Exterminador's agents and force the rest to run away, but all the Templars die in the task.
The Ángel Exterminador boss, after clearly implying he has a mole in the Ministry, kills the agent for his failure.
The patrol brings the book to the present, with Pacino suggesting the potential of traveling to the future for the good of humanity, but Salvador is not so sure. He does have a bad piece of news for him, though: Marta's in a heavy coma after her father attacked her. The Rabbi returns to the past, and Salvador decides to burn the book to prevent its misuse.
Lola and Pacino speak, with Pacino thanking her for her help. Lola asks Pacino to erase the photos he made of the book.
Alonso is obviously shaken at the death of the Templar soldiers, hallucinating the Templar leader.
Pacino reminisces his young self... but in the end he does not erase the photos.
