"Without kids to scam, he's gone crazy!"
The cul-de-sac kids have been quarantined with chicken pox, and the Eds are the only ones who didn't catch it. Ed and Edd decide to take the day off, but having nobody to scam makes Eddy lose his mind.Tropes:
- Always Need What You Gave Up: Ed eats the key to the shed after being told by Double D to hide it. Unfortunately, once Eddy's back to normal and the kids are healthy again, the only way the Eds can get out is by using Ed as a shovel.
- Bittersweet Ending: The cul-de-sac kids have recovered from their chicken pox and Eddy snaps out of his madness, but the Eds are locked in the shed, and Ed ate the key, so they have to dig their way out.
- Chickenpox Episode: All the kids in the cul-de-sac have chickenpox except the Eds, who got lucky. This means there are no kids to scam, driving Eddy insane.
- Counterfeit Cash: Ed was able to make a whole pile of fake dollar bills that look like the real thing, except for the fact that his face is on them. Upon realizing it's all fake, Eddy blows up, which Double D was hoping for.Eddy: (inspecting a dollar) With all this glorious... huh!? It's fake!
Ed: (proudly) I drew it myself. - Deranged Dance: Eddy does one when he finally loses it. Ed finds it funny until Edd explains why it's serious.
- Go Mad from the Isolation: Eddy goes insane once he realizes that due to the chicken pox epidemic, he has nobody to scam. It takes Ed and Edd exploiting his Money Fetish to snap him out of it.
- Lampshade Hanging: As Eddy continues to grow frustrated and bored with no kids to scam, he points out that Ed has a Big Ol' Unibrow and no chin (his face appears to just melt into his neck) and questions what Edd is hiding under his hat.
- Madness-Induced Omnivore: Eddy loses his sanity because all the other kids in the cul-de-dac got chicken pox but him and his friends. In his madness-induced state, Eddy at one point says "Ham and eggs with buttered toast" and takes a bite out of a fence, and mistakes a fire hydrant for a jawbreaker, rips it out of the ground, stuffs it in his mouth, and then proceeds to suck on it. Also, when Edd tells Ed to discreetly hide the key to the shed's lock, he puts it in a sandwich and eats it.
- Mock Meal: The Eds' scam at the beginning of the episode involves them making fake ice-cream cones by gluing baseballs onto paper cones and painting them pink. Ed actually eats one.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Parodied. Eddy becomes ashamed of himself when he realizes he's been reduced to calling on Sarah of all people. This proves to be the straw that breaks him into going crazy.Eddy: Huh… Oh no! I'm calling on Sarah...
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Even while crazy, Eddy manages to successfully scam a bunch of squirrels out of their nuts by challenging them to a Shell Game.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: When Eddy goes insane, Ed and Edd attempt to capture him for his own safety. So they approach him by wearing poorly drawn masks of Jonny and Plank. Eddy still falls for the disguises even when Ed's mask falls off.Eddy: Hi Plank! Hi Jonny! I'd invite you in, but I just shampooed the rugs! [Ed's mask falls off which causes Edd to Face Palm]
Ed: Oops.
Eddy: Jonny. You dropped your face... I'll get you a new one! - Sanity Slippage: Eddy goes through this when he realizes there's no one to scam since the others have chicken pox.
- Shell Game: Eddy hustles a bunch of squirrels out of their peanuts and acorns with this game.
- Swallow the Key: Edd gives Ed the key to the shed and tells him to hide it discretely. Ed puts the key between two slices of bread and eats it.Eddy: Where's the stupid key?
Ed: I ate it... discretely. - That Poor Cat: After Eddy stomps on a can the other Eds were playing with, he kicks it away and a cat is heard offscreen.
- The Voiceless: With the exception of Jimmy, the kids are voiceless.
- X-Ray of Pain: Eddy starts to go insane when there are no kids around to scam (due to a chickenpox epidemic), leading to a shot of his brain expanding and busting like a bag of microwave popcorn.
- Wingding Eyes: Upon seeing the pile of (fake) money, Eddy's eyes turn into dollar signs. He then goes through a series of similar transformations, including his hairs turning into dollar signs, and even transforming into a piggy bank.
