Recap / Duncanville S 1 E Fridgy

Go To

The family gets a smart fridge that makes Annie feel replaced - and is from an appliance company with questionable motives.

Tropes:

  • Heavy Sleeper: Duncan slept ninety three hours one week, according to Fridgy. He even sleeps while the family is being kidnapped in a net.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: The appliances aren't malfunctioning or turning against humanity. They're working just as the corporation that made them intended.
  • New Media Are Evil: Annie thinks this of the new smart fridge. She especially objects to the lack of privacy, as Fridgy posted pictures of her and Jack having sex in the kitchen and ordered a new bed without her consent.
  • Power Floats: Kimberly briefly floats when she tries to use witchcraft against Fridgy.
  • Self-Destruct Mechanism: The appliance company's secret lair has one, which activates when Kimberly makes the smart appliances fight each other.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Jack and Annie hook up on the kitchen floor, but the scene cuts to the fridge placing orders for random food items they shout out.
  • Shoot the Dog: Parodied when Jack has to take the old fridge to the dump. When it stalls in the middle of the slope, he takes out a shotgun and shoots it. On the other side, he sees another family to the same to its appliances; they both raise their guns as a salute.
  • Shout-Out: Jack and Annie make one to Titanic (1997) after the fridge floods.
