Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:
- Bullying a Dragon: By kidnapping Bruno, Dagur had incurred Pepa's wrath, unleashing a torrential storm and a thunderbolt that incapacitates his entire crew and nearly capsizes his boat.
- Divide and Conquer: Bruno manages to convince Dagur that Savage is purposefully sabotaging him.
- Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: Dagur extends a hand of friendship and asks Bruno to shake it, knowing that Bruno couldn't because he was tied up.
- Laugh with Me!: Subverted. When Dagur laughs at Bruno's expense, his minions try laughing with him, only for Dagur to yell at them, thinking they were laughing at him.Dagur: Who's laughing? Who's laughing at me!? You think I'm some kind of clown?
- Mythology Gag: The biggest casualty of Pepa's storm is Tuffnut's beloved mace, Macy.
- Scheherezade Gambit: Bruno manages to buy himself time by making various requests (untying him, feeding him, etc.), knowing that they don't actually know how his gift works and thus making up various arbitrary parameters for it.
- Spanner in the Works: Pepa was so happy to see Bruno safe after they rescue him, she accidentally undoes the environmental advantage they had by clearing up the fog and storm-clouds that were hiding them.
- This Means War!: In the end, the Hooligan Tribe and Berserker Tribe are now at war. Stoick declares war because he kidnapped a guest under his protection (violating Sacred Hospitality), much less a member of an ally's ruling family, and Dagur declares war for lying to him and wanting their dragons and Madrigals for himself. The fact that they have a Skrill — the dragon representing the Berserker Tribe — is just icing on the cake.
- Trauma Button: Pepa nearly has a breakdown when she finds out that Bruno was kidnapped, having already been harboring a lot of guilt over Bruno's self-exile.
- Wham Episode: Hiccup, the Madrigals and Berk are now officially at war with the Berserker Tribe.
