First Aired - January 4th, 1968

Sergeant Joe Friday and Officer Bill Gannon are working in the Juvenile division. Two girls, Ginny (age 3) and Dianne (age 5), are reported missing by their mother. The two girls were playing outside in the front yard and when their mother called them in, the girls were nowhere to be seen. Friday calls for a search of the whole area to find the girls, as they fear the girls were taken or stuck somewhere.

Just the Tropes, ma'am:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The dog. Bert said the girls had a dog when he saw them six months ago and Gannon asked if the girls had a dog. The mother doesn't own a dog as she finds them too dirty. It turns out the former neighbor's dog got out and the girls wandered off with the dog when he returned home.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Bert Stanley was kicked out of his house by his wife and was forced to not be with his kids. His daughters don't know what happened to him just that he is gone. He was an alcoholic and later on agreed with his wife for kicking him out. The Epilogue reveals that he was able to gain visitation rights again.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Ginny and Dianne are found safe and sound and their father has regained his visitation rights.
  • Race Against the Clock: The longer the girls are missing, the higher chance that they may not be found.
  • Recovered Addict: Bert Stanley, the girls father, is a recovering alcoholic. Marian threw him out and divorced him over a year ago. Once he finally started recovering, he agreed with his ex-wife as he was not fit to be a father or husband due to his drinking.
  • Red Herring: Lots of them. The father, the refrigerator and child sex offender are all examined but it turned out they had nothing to do with the girls.
