Disgusting Vegetarian Food: Ross is a strict health food guru. Friday and Smith go along, just so they can continue their questioning.
Dissonant Serenity: Ross, a longshoreman, seems like a gentle man on the outside, and even is cool and calm during questioning, but he harbors an extremely violent streak within him, as he's suspected in the deaths of several others who have crossed his path.
Police Brutality and No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: When Ross attempts to knock out Smith, he is greeted with a right uppercut from Friday, followed by a punch to the gut and a hard blow across the back, which is enough to subdue Ross. By the latter part of the 1950s run, fist fights would be gone from the show and brawls between the good the bad guys were never seen in the 1960s version ... perhaps a reflection of the era.
