"Mothers and Daughters" is the third episode of season 4 of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
As Dr. Mike becomes increasingly absorbed in her romance with Sully, Colleen rebels by joining her classmates in some dangerous escapades. Mike is dismayed to learn of Colleen's involvement in such daredevil hijinks as moonlight hay-rides and cliff-top horse races. When Brian also begins feeling ignored, Mike and Sully discover the importance of balancing their romantic life with their parental responsibilities.
This episode provides examples of:
- Insatiable Newlyweds: Dr. Mike and Sully really seem to enjoy their married life, to the point of neglecting their parental responsibilities and professional ones—Mike actually leaves work in the middle of the day to find Sully and entice him into coming home with her for a "nooner".
- Primal Scene: Matthew walks in on Mike and Sully. Though they're still in the beginning stages, only just starting to undress, it's still obvious what was going on, and they're all embarrassed.
- Troubled Teen: A very mild example, with Colleen getting involved in her classmates' daredevil hijinks.
