Tropes

  • Accidental Misnaming: Twice during the first song, DK mispronounces the curse, calling it the "Dreading Dabbar Blabboo Cursed Double Dabble of Doobie-Doo" and the "Dreddle Double Birboo Cursing Double Woppu of Blue Suede Shoe." Both times, Cranky corrects him.
Cranky: No, you're saying it wrong! It's Bluebeard Baboon's curse of the Double Doubloon!
  • Batman Gambit: In the end, when K.Rool invokes the curse in an attempt to ransom the Coconut, DK reveals that he was planning on it so he could steal Cranky's book with the Curse Escape Clause in the confusion.
  • Curse Escape Clause: Luckily, there's a magic spell that can undo the curse in one of Cranky's spell books.
  • Darker and Edgier: This is by far one of, if not the, darkest episodes in the show. The island is in doom of sinking and killing everyone. And K. Rool actually decided to intentionally read the curse, knowing full well he will sink. The stakes are higher here than they have ever been in the show.
  • Didn't Think This Through: K. Rool threatens to read the letter intended for him if he's not given the Crystal Coconut, threatening to sink the island if he doesn't get what he wants. When DK and Diddy show up, he does exactly that, thinking there are more words on the other side when there aren't; it's at that moment that K. Rool realizes that he's doomed the entire island with him on it.
  • Diving Save: DK performs an epic swan dive to retrieve the book when it falls in one of K.Rool's pits.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: K. Rool amuses himself with Cranky's Aunt Grouchy's spellbook by casting spells on his minions. He's got them all clucking like chickens when DK and Diddy arrive. Who were able to just walk in because no one was guarding the entrance. It also leaves K. Rool with just himself and Polly Rodger to fight over the book.
  • Villain Song: "Spellbound", by King K.Rool.
