Recap / Disventure Camp Ball Busters

Go To

Tropes in this episode include:

  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: The episode concludes with a gleeful confessional from Ashley, telling how happy she is about Fiore's elimination and even saying that she, Lill, Will and Nick should have drinks after the show is over to celebrate the fact.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After Magenta Team loses the challenge, at first it seems that Jake was able to convince Ashley to vote out Ally after giving in to Fiore's manipulations. In the end, turns out that Ashley managed to convince Jake off-screen to vote out Fiore, and Fiore was eliminated with three votes against her.
  • "Balls" Gag: Kristal starts explaining the challenge by saying that in this episode the teams would show how well they handle balls, clearly wanting to get a reaction out of the contestants.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Gabby overhears Riya and Alec discussing their Villains Alliance while hiding near one of the Cyan Team's balls. Thus, she learns that not only is the alliance real, but Ellie is a member of it and was lying to her about it.
  • Human Shield: Riya uses Yul to shield her from an incoming ball during the second half of the challenge.
  • Internal Reveal: Yellow Team learns about the letters that Miriam wrote to the other teams revealing the Villains Alliance. Gabby also gets confirmation that the alliance is real when she overhears Riya and Alec discussing it and their members.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: As mentioned above, Yul is used as a Human Shield by his teammates with disregard for his safety.
  • Loophole Abuse: Yellow Team avoids receiving any points in the second half of the challenge by putting a log in front of their goal posts in order to deflect all the balls thrown at it.
  • Manipulative Bitch:
    • When Ellie sees that her team is at risk of losing, she pushes Tom and makes him fall on top of Aiden in order to distract Jake, that was defending Magenta Team's goals posts. The final nail in the coffin was Ellie telling Tom and Aiden to just get a room and not do those things during challenges.
    • After Magenta Team loses the challenge, Fiore asks Jake if he's alright after being ran over by a ball, not out of genuine concern, but to see if she endear herself to Jake's eyes just enough to convince him to keep her in the game. In this case, however, it doesn't work, and Fiore is eliminated.
  • Properly Paranoid: Aiden says in a confessional that he is starting to think Jake had a hand in sending James home. He is of course absolutely right, but doesn't have confirmation just yet.
  • Shout-Out: At one point, Fiore calls Tom "Scarface".
  • Sore Loser: While Fiore takes her elimination better than she did in Season 1, two in-universe years earlier, she still tries to get under Jake and Ashley's skins, implying that Jake is being manipulated by Ashley and that she will eventually throw him under the bus and saying that she hopes that Tom and Aiden "do a little more than kissing next time". When she gets to the camp's exit to catch the bus, Fiore reacts to a greeting from Connor by shouting "shut up, boomer!".
