Recap / Diagnosis Murder S 2 E 15 A Blast From The Past

Go To

Steve gets a visit from Eddie Gault, a murderer he put away for the killing of his wife. Oh, but Eddie doesn't plan on taking revenge on Steve like some other common crook. Really. He doesn't hold a grudge against him or want him to suffer in any way possible.

Oh, it's only a coincidence that he's now working the linens at Community General. Oh, things start happening to Mark like his kitchen being set on fire, but those are just happy coincidences as well.

We hope you can see the obvious truth here, folks.

"A Blast From The Past" displays symptoms of the following tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Eddie told Lily that his wife died in a bad fall while she attacked him. Steve clarifies to her that Eddie beat her to death "methodically" as he puts it.
  • Call-Back: Eddie's new job is at Baylor Laundry, apparently still running in spite of Regina's absence.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Eddie's wife likely died in this way, as Steve says Eddie not only beat her to death, but did so in a "methodical" manner.
  • Disposable Sex Worker: Steve's associate Carrie is undercover as a hooker to smoke out a Serial Killer murdering prostitutes.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: What's this? My wife is once again not doing something to my ungodly precise standards? Well, the time has come to beat her to death!
  • Domestic Abuse: Eddie beats his fiancée Lily for minor slights. It's horribly likely he did the same to his wife.
  • Never My Fault: Eddie claims his wife was abusive to him, constantly torturing him and provoking him with things like... not folding bedsheets onto the mattress the correct way in his eyes.
  • Serial Killer Baiting: Steve's fellow officer is doing this to draw out someone on the prowl murdering prostitutes.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Mark calls himself and Steve Laurel and Hardy when he accidentally gets the cops sent to his house a second time.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: We never learn if Carrie caught that Prostitute Killer.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Eddie to his romantic partners, and then some.
