Go To

Mark tries to do his friend Sammy Garret a favor by dancing with Garret's business partner Roland Spear when the former sprains his ankle. Things turn troublesome when during the routine, Roland is hit with an electric shock from his recently repaired cane (that only Sammy touched after repairs) and his heart stops. mark sets out to save his friend.

"Flashdance With Death" displays symptoms of the following tropes:

  • Alliterative Name: The dance studio is called Dance Dimension.
  • And Starring: William Katt gets the special credit for this episode.
  • Artistic License – Medicine: When Roland gets the electric shock, he clutches at the right side of his chest, not his left where his heart actually is.
  • Attack on the Heart: Roland is killed when the shock from his cane shorts his pacemaker, which was already weakened by Cindy's electromagnet.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Barbara changing the locked to Dance Dimension after Roland dies. This means Cindy can't use her key to get in and retrieve the electromagnet, forcing her to smash the window in order to unlock the door.
  • Dating Catwoman: This episode starts a trend of Steve dating women that turn out to be the murderer.
  • High-Voltage Death: A downplayed example, as the electric shock isn't enough to kill, but does knock out Roland's already damaged pacemaker.
  • Sleepy Head: A minor subplot in the episode involves a patient at Community General, Seymour Talbot, coming in to find out why he keeps passing out, but keeps leaving to handle work emergencies before the guys can actually treat him. When Seymour passes out again at the end of the episode, Mark diagnoses it as simple narcolepsy.
