* ActionGirl: Katrina, who teams up with Adam to take down Durant.
* AlmostKiss: Similar to an example from the main game, Adam has a moment with Katrina that's ruined when Pritchard calls to tell him that he's needed immediately.
* ArtificialLimbs: It is revealed that half of Adam's legs were removed during the augmentation surgery after the attack, as well as both of his arms.
* AxCrazy: Durant.
* BackToBackBadasses: Adam and Katrina, while fighting off Durant's goons in her apartment.
* BadassNormal: The non-augmented Adam managed to beat his senior officer (and augment) Durant by surprising him with an EMP grenade and getting a lucky shot off on him.
* BigDamnHeroes: Malik shows up to lay down suppressing fire on Durant when he attempts to kill Adam at Katrina's apartment.
* BroughtDownToNormal: Adam does this during the confrontation with Durant in the church in order to disable his augmentations and break his concentration. Durant does the same thing two years later at the car plant when he also uses an EMP to disable Adam's augs.
* CallingTheOldManOut: The younger Adam calls out Durant (his mentor) for betraying his uniform and leading a corrupt police team.
* ContinuitySnarl:
** Adam uses a surprising number of his augmentations, even though the story takes place comparatively early in the game's plotline and the player wouldn't physically have enough experience/Praxis kits to unlock that many abilities.
** Additionally, Adam had a relationship with Katrina (whom he saw [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifice herself]] to save his life), yet she's never mentioned in the rest of the game, even though the Hengsha mission in the game takes place right after this and Adam is more interested in how big the city is.
* CorruptCop: Durant, the rest of his squad and Dredger.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: Discussed extensively.
** It is revealed that one of the primary reasons for the opposition to augmentation is due to the dangerous psychological disorders some augmented people develop (though this is more due to the nasty side effects of the anti-rejection drugs they have to take than the augs themselves).
** Durant himself has a large aversion to augmentations, but ends up becoming psychopathic after receiving his first upgrades, which eventually leads Adam to have to put him down himself.
* ADateWithRosiePalms: The comic begins with one of the Mexcian kidnappers doing this on a rooftop.
* DoomedByCanon: Considering that Katrina never appears anywhere in the game proper, it's a ForegoneConclusion that she'll be killed by the end of the comic.
* DyingAsYourself: Discussed. Durant tells the younger Adam that he should have let him die instead of forcing him to get augmentations. As a result, he [[CyberneticsEatYourSoul becomes more and more unhinged and violent as time passes]].
* {{Expy}}: Katrina Sutherland is one for Lara Croft of all people.
** Gets a ShoutOut when Pritchard calls her that.
* HeroicSacrifice: PlayedWith. Adam intends to sacrifice himself in a last-ditch effort to save Katrina from Durant, but Katrina ends up sacrificing herself to save him instead.
* HowWeGotHere: The series mainly exists to explain why Dr. Markovic is not present at the LIMB clinic when Adam returns to Detroit midway through the main game.
* {{Interquel}}
* IronicEcho: Adam uses an {{EMP}} grenade to surprise Durant and knock out his augmentations in the fight after the [[NoodleIncident Mexicantown Massacre]]. Two years later, Durant does the same thing against Adam when the latter goes to rescue Markovic at the car plant.
* ItsPersonal: Adam holds this attitude towards finding and killing Namir.
* KickTheDog: Durant immediately proves himself to be a scumbag by fueling the Detroit riots by wading into a group of protestors and triggering his Typhoon aug, killing several of them.
* KilledMidSentence: Dredger, who has his killswitch activated when he begins to explain the "[[TheManBehindTheMan Power Behind The Power]]" to Adam and Katrina.
* LadyOfWar: Katrina, who has the title to go along with it.
* ManlyTears: Adam cries after Katrina sacrifices herself to save him.
* MythologyGag: Durant's method of fueling the riots (detonating the Typhoon in the middle of a crowd) is similar to Yelena Federova's similar response in one of the trailers (which is never used in the game proper), where she fires on civilians to accelerate the rioting.
* NakedFirstImpression: Adam first meets Katrina when he busts in on her while she's having a shower. She's not amused.
* OffWithHisHead: Arkady Vronsky is beheaded by Durant while speeding down the interstate on a motorbike.
* RasputinianDeath: In the course of a single day, Durant survives a direct explosion next to him, being on a crashing VTOL (and landing safely), being wounded during a shootout by Jensen, having ''another'' explosion go off in his face, and still surviving long enough to talk to Adam before being finished off with a bullet to the head.
* RecurringBoss: Durant, who survives several attacks that would have killed a non-augmented person, and keeps coming back for more. It takes him getting repeatedly beaten, blown up by an explosion in close proximity and Adam personally administering a [[BoomHeadshot headshot]] (all within a few minutes) to make sure he's dead for real.
* ReplacementLoveInterest: Katrina Sutherland.
* SadisticChoice: Durant tries to force Adam into one by outfitting him and Katrina with explosives, where only one will be saved. Katrina decides to TakeAThirdOption by sacrificing herself to give Adam a shot at killing Durant once and for all.

The six-issue series, written by Robbie Morrison, adds a story between Jensen and Malik's first departure from Detroit to Hengsha. The series goes deeper into Adam's past as a police officer and Sarif's acquaintance with Zhao Yun Ru and William Taggart.
En route to Hengsha, Adam and Faridah are diverted to Ciudad Juarez to save Sarif's niece from cartel captors. After the rescue is successful, they return to Detroit where the girl is re-united with her mother, a high-ranking member of the Humanity Front. After a Humanity Front rally is attacked by a terrorist using technology from Sarif Industries, Jensen follows a lead to Montreal and encounters Katrina Sutherland, a British security contractor. Together they discover that the mastermind behind the attack is Quincy Durant - Adam's former SWAT-commander, now turned into a heavily augmented terrorist.
Adam and Katrina develop a romantic relationship. Sarif meets William Taggart and Zhao Yun Ru in London. The two offer him a place in their conspiracy, which Sarif refuses. Returning to Detroit with Jensen and Malik, he is attacked by Durant. Jensen fights Durant back, only to discover that he has taken Katrina hostage. Durant gives Adam two options; kill himself, or he will kill Katrina. Just as Adam is about to take his own life in a hopeless attempt to save Katrina, she attacks Durant. She saves Adam, but kills both Durant and herself in the process. Her death deeply affects Adam, who continues his original mission, heading for Hengsha.

After leaving [[Recap/DeusExHumanRevolutionMission04HighlandPark Highland Park]], Adam and
Adam kills several guards on his way into the cartel's stronghold where the woman, Nina Freeman, is being held. When one of her captors threatens to [[{{Fingore}} cut off her fingers]], Adam [[DynamicEntry smashes through the roof]] and kills most of the cartel leadership. A standoff occurs between Adam and Nina's torturer, who threatens to kill her if he doesn't release the head of the cartel (whom he's captured). Adam responds by dropping his gun and using the cartel leader as a HumanShield, then stabbing the assailant with his wristblades. He rescues Nina and returns her to her mother in Detroit.
Afterwads, he goes for a checkup at the Detroit LIMB Clinic. Dr. Vera Markovic explains that he's checked out physically and asks if he's still having bad dreams. He makes light of the situation and flashes back to the Sarif attack before affirming that he's fine.
He heads back to Sarif Headquarters and has a meeting with David and Pritchard about the Recap/DeusExHumanRevolutionMission02SarifManufacturingPlant manufacturing plant attack]] and the [[Recap/DeusExHumanRevolutionMission04HighlandPark secret FEMA base]]. They discuss whether there was an unseen benefactor behind Nina's kidnapping, but Adam reasons that it was strictly limited to a terrorist group that attacked because the company was seen to be weak. Adam asks to pursue the FEMA lead, but Sarif orders him to focus on Barrett's lead instead.
At the same time, a Humanity Front demonstration in Detroit goes awry when an augmented man detonates a Typhoon in the middle of the crowd, then goes on to attack and kill nearby civilians. While the speaker, William Taggart, and his bodyguards flee, the man kills a reporter and chants the phrase "[[TitleDrop deus ex]]" to the cameras.
Adam suffers from BadDreams that night and goes back to the LIMB clinic, where he talks with Dr. Markovic about his feelings towards the attack that led to him receiving augmentations. Pritchard radios to tell him about the attack at the rally. Adam heads to the crime scene and investigates, running into a federal agent (and fellow friend in the police force) named Jake Dredger, who antagonizes him before leaving. Adam heads back to the Sarif offices and views video of the attacker, describing his augmentations in detail to the rest of the staff. He pauses to examine [[SpottingTheThread a red crosshair the attacker painted with blood on a camera]]. In a {{flashback}}, Adam thinks about his former commanding officer, Quincy Durant, who led a unit of men (including Adam) that sported crosshair tattoos and were trained to shoot first and ask questions later.
Adam is deployed by David to find the location of he hacker who was remotely controlling the augmented man at the manufacturing plant. Malik flies him to a location in Montreal, and they arrive on the roof of a hotel. Adam expresses confusion and asks Pritchard if he has the right intel, but the latter responds that this is where the hacker's source was emanating from. Inside, Adam tracks the source to a hotel room and finds... [[ShowerScene a woman finishing up her shower]]. She demands to know who he is, and after he tells her why he's there, she says that she's not a hacker, but the person hackers send after augmented people who go bad.
The woman dresses and introduces herself as Lady Katrina Sutherland, and that she is tracking someone as well. Their conversation is cut short when they come under fire from a sniper across the street. Adam shields Katrina from gunfire, and they decide to make a break for the roof, taking down gunmen and snipers as they get to the top, the terrorist who bombed the rally attacks them. Katrina shoots him down, but he stands back up and reveals himself to be... Durant.
After Adam tries to make small talk, Durant reveals that he is now a force of evolution, before trying to kill the duo with his Typhoon. Adam once again protects Katrina, but is knocked to the ground and nearly killed before Malik appears in her VTOL and begins firing at Durant, who leaps off the building. Katrina tells them that they need to regroup and think of a plan, and Malik jokes that Adam has discovered [[Franchise/TombRaider Lara Croft]] before they head off. On the way back, Adam has more flashbacks to an incident where Durant was seriously wounded by an augmented war veteran, and was forced to get augmentations himself in order to save his life.
Back at Sarif Headquarters, Katrina reveals that she was led on just like the rest of the group, and was pursuing a group that hired a high-tech hacker, known as Windmill, to lead them in circles. Adam then reveals that the leader of this group is most likely Durant, who he explains [[CyberneticsEatYourSoul went crazy after being augmented]], and that Adam has presumed him to be dead after an incident in the past.
Afterwards, Adam allows Katrina to stay at his apartment for the time being, and she relates her backstory of being injured in a horse riding accident and having augmentations installed, then working as a freelancer. They [[AlmostKiss nearly kiss]], but are interrupted when Pritchard calls to tell them that there's a situation.
Pritchard reveals that someone has been targeting Sarif Industries employees who were involved with Adam's augmentation procedure. The agent is told that all of the remaining employees are safe, except for Dr. Markovic, who has her security detail ambushed and killed by Durant at the LIMB clinic. She is taken hostage by him before Adam can get to her location. In the aftermath, Pritchard discovers that [[ChekhovsGunman Jake Dredger]] had access to the protection detail for the scientists, and knew where Dr. Markovic would be vulnerable.
Adam and Katrina pay Dredger a visit and throw him through a television before interrogating him about Durant's whereabouts. Although Dredger acts defiant, he eventually gives up the information (while being held over the edge of a roof) that Durant is hiding at the Delaney car plant. He tells them that they'll never be able to get in because Durant has an army of mercenaries. He also reveals to Adam that he was the one who rescued Durant after the latter's confrontation with him years earlier, but that Durant has been slowly growing unstable over the intervening years. Dredger also attempts to tell the pair about the Illuminati, but [[HeKnowsTooMuch his killswitch is activated]] and he dies before he can provide any significant information.
Adam goes on a solo mission to rescue Markovic, breaking into the car plant under cover of darkness and knocking out several guards on his way. After he takes down a mercenary who implied he was [[RapeAsDrama planning on raping Markovic]], Adam is tazed by Durant, who reveals himself to have had further augmentations since their last encounter. Adam has another flashback, this time to the aftermath of the [[NoodleIncident Mexicantown Massacre]], and how he was forced to confront and seemingly kill Durant because of the latter's growing insanity.
In the present, Durant tells Adam that "they" (the Illuminati) implanted a mind-control chip in him, but he had Markovic remove it. He claims that he sees the world for what it really is, and that he is going to kill people who stand in the way of the "[[TitleDrop human revolution]]". He orders his men to kill Adam, but they are killed in turn by Katrina, who is across the street providing cover fire. Adam narrowly escapes with Markovic before the building goes up in an explosion.
Everyone retires back to Adam's apartment, and David arrives to tell him and Katrina that Markovic is recovering from her traumatic experience. He also reveals that they [[NeverFoundTheBody couldn't find Durant's body in the wreckage]]. David finishes by saying that Adam will be needed in London the next day before leaving. Afterwards, [[ShowerScene Katrina surprises Adam in the shower]] and tells him that they should make the most of the night, and they proceed to [[CoitusEnsues consummate their relationship]]. Meanwhile, at the ruins of the auto plant, two agents discover Durant's body, but he is revealed to be NotQuiteDead and kills both of them before escaping.
