In the wake of several planets disappearing, the Hive God of War, Xivu Arath makes a play for power in the system. With Osiris having lost his ghost, he directs The Guardian to team up with Spider and his new enforcer The Crow on the Tangled Shore and Dreaming City to draw out and defeat the heralds of the Hive God.

Season of the Hunt contains examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: The Young Wolf is able to kill the High Celebrant of Xivu Arath in the Ascendant Realm, ending the Wrathborn threat. As payment for killing the High Celebrant, the Guardian forces the Spider to release Crow, also killing the Spider's ambitions of taking over the Reef. However, Sagira and countless others are dead as a result of the Wrathborn's rampages. Worst of all, Xivu Arath herself is still out there, and she still intends to fulfill the void left by Savathun.
  • Dramatic Irony: The only person who doesn't know that Crow is a resurrected Uldren Sov is Crow. And Spider wants to keep it that way.
  • Exact Words: The Spider offers to pay the Guardian anything in his lair if they successfully kill the High Celebrant. After the deed is done, the Young Wolf claims their prize: Crow, who is standing right in the lair with them. Knowing that he refuses the rest of the Solar system will write him off as untrustworthy, the Spider begrudgingly frees Crow.
  • Sucksessor: Wrathborn are this to the Taken. When an entity is Taken, it passes through a rift in the Ascendant Realm to be altered and brainwashed by the Darkness, giving it new powers and abilities. The Wrathborn are Xivu Arath’s attempts to make her own Taken, but as she does not have the Tablets of Ruin, she tries to recreate the effect on her own, to her own detriment.
    • Rather than gaining new abilities or powers, the Wrathborn appear to just be fanatically angrily-brainwashed by the Cryptoliths, and when they pass through the Ascendant Realm, all they get is a small boost to overall toughness, which is easily destroyed when weaker Wrathborn drop wells of Hive magic.
  • This Cannot Be!: Ghost's reaction to seeing Crow for the first time.
    Ghost: ...impossible!
  • Wham Shot: Just as a Hive Knight is about to kill the Lightless Osiris, it is run through by the other Guardian: a Hunter bearing the face of Uldren Sov!
"They call me the Crow. My boss wants to speak with you."
